North America over the Horizon?

Can someone please explain to me why NO has been shrugging North America when it comes to touring. With the exception of a few dates in '01 (all west coast), it's been quite a while since they've done an extensive run. Granted Get Ready was not a big seller, but since when do you need a big hit or even a record deal to tour? Look at poor Morrissey!

I live south of Boston and I too would wish to see New Order one day come over and tour here - having only gotten into the band's music in 1999.

When their last album Get Ready came out I was looking forward to maybe seeing them play Boston or at least a Canadian date, but sadly no such luck. I do hope next time they consider coming here. Is there another album planned soon?

The answer maybe that the USA '89 Technique tour beat the crap out of certain members of the band (OK, just one then!) and I doubt if they will ever pursue anything on that scale ever again.

Probably because we think OMD, Depeche Mode, and NO are all the same band.

I'd go see Ultravox if they toured. But it would have to be one of the John Foxx-era line ups or the Midge Ure-era before Warren Cann split.

I'd go see NO if they toured the midwest like around southwest Ohio....

Let's break it down. For example: last year May 27 (Monday, Memorial Day) I saw Pet Shop Boys in Detroit. Fantastic show, got to meet Neil and Chris and get autographs and talk to Neil. Left for home planning to be at work on Tuesday at least by noon. Got to Findlay and had to stop at a rest stop to sleep. Slept for a couple of hours and finally got home at 6:30 am. No chance of work that day, but they knew I might not be there. One lost day of work but then I was lucky it wasn't 2. Last year was real bad for being off work since I blew all my sick days and half my vacation days because I was in the hospital last January.

Paul Weller is touring around country in Feb. I'd LOVE to see him but the closest he'll be is Detroit (same theatre as PSB!) and the show is on a Tuesday. I'd lose TWO days of work to be there and even if I can get the time off knowing Detroit it'll be hit with 12" of snow that day. I can't drive back that night because it'll be too cold to pull off at a rest stop to sleep and hotels are expensive.

South west Ohio is a really nice place to be. We have paved roads, flush toilets, and phones that can be dialed directly and not through an operator named Betty Lou sitting at her switchboard. Cincinnati and Columbus have a TON of places to play and lots of people would go see a group at any of them. Unfortunately, Dayton is still mired in the '70s album oriented rock so I can't blame anyone for nmot coming here.

I'd go see Ultravox with Midge or John too. Heck, I just heard that Erasure (of all bands) is coming near Grand Rapids (Chicago, I think). Freakin Erasure?!? If they can tour the US and not go broke, NO should be able to do it easily. They are just lazy old farts who don't feel like it. Let's stop kidding ourselves. It's not cause they can't or because they couldn't afford it. It's because they have gotten older, slower, and they don't have to do things they don't feel like anymore. So, why do it? For the fans? I doubt they care that much about the fans, if they did, the box set would have been different... as well as other releases.

I didn't think the problem with WTC was people not travelling to the States, it was more Americans refusing to travel elsewhere, no?

Gigs - as far as I know - were offered in April and then August of last year, but were turned down. You can guess whose final decision that one was!

Funniest thing I heard when we were over for the Area:One stuff - Americans not flying to the UK because of ... mad cow disease! One woman we met in San Francisco had even delayed a year at University as a result.

Yer right about NO. A bunch of lazy slobs who don't care about the fans. I bet they don't even meet the fans after shows. At least PSB talked to us after the Detroit show. Shoot...Neil Tennant is older than Barney, Hooky, and Steve...

Yeah, I decided that no matter when or where the next time they have a show, I am going(even the wife okayed it). That means west coast U.S.A. or even the U.K.. And that would be a great adventure for this small, midwestern town boy.
