Whats the release (audio/video), live gig or performance that you have most looked forward to and why ?

I have a few, I remember getting a friend to set the video for the Regret Baywatch performance JUST in case mine failed to record!

Also Reading 93 i went for the wkd but moped about for 2 days until the Sunday spending most of my time getting high and listneing to NewOrder in my tent looking forward to the Sunday.. dont get me wrong i did venture out to see a few bands but it felt i was merely treading water in anticipation!

But seeing Electronic in 91 has to top it for me! I was like a little kid at christmas!! could barely sleep the night before!!! seem to recall i spent most of the night listening to the album on repeat reciting the words to perfection!! - oh them were the days!!! :D

Also more recently after the supreme hype of the Bonus CD on Retro i actually got into work early on its release date (shock horror!!) just so as to make damn sure i got my copy!!! a little over the top perhaps in reflection but it felt like the right thing to do!!

the release of "Get Ready". after the disappointment with "Republic" and the 8 years break i was very excited about the new material. then the '93 performance at the bizarre festival in germany. the first time i saw my heroes live :)

G-Mex 88.

Wasn't sure I'd ever see them again - or want to - after Wembley 87 (dire, seated and we were right near the back). And, of course, there were all the break-up rumours - would they / wouldn't they?

I remember ACR announcing a tour in the NME small-print - and the dates were, like, Peterborough Hope & Anchor, Macclesfield Red Lion, Walsall Conservative Club, then right at the end "Manchester G-Mex"!!!. All just ASSUMED they must be supporting the Order and, two weeks later, the gig was officially announced in the press.

Fifteen of us sorted a mini-bus and, being at Uni at the time, I collected everyone's individual nine pound cheques (couldn't afford to pay the lot on me own then), sent 'em off, then three weeks prior to the gig I get one huge cheque back cos the G-Mex was OVER-SUBSCRIBED!

Ended up getting tickets from a tout in Blackburn one week before the gig - fifteen notes each, which doesn't sound a lot now, but only seven of us were prepared to pay that much. Shame really, cos out of that bunch only one other than me has bothered with New Order since, although all still regard themselves as fans - and he made just one Brixton date 15 months back. Such is life.

What a gig though. Best ever comeback, even they'd only done a year in exile.

Apollo 98 was a corker though, or at least the announcement of the Phoenix beforehand. Didn't buy the NME, never bothered with New Order newsgroups or webpages, and NEVER ever thought I'd see them again at that point, but then we were out on the sauce in the All Bar One on Regent's Street at a mate's leaving do (I remember the moment!). And an old work colleague of mine said to me, "Oh, there was something I meant to tell you - now what was it, it was really important!" But he'd forgotten. And then about an hour later he remembers, says really casually, "Oh yeah, New Order are doing a gig." I was gobsmacked.

I was really anxious when I was waiting for the Regret video on MTV's First Look (stuff was very delayed coming to Croatia at that time), because I thought I'd never hear anything from them again. I was extatic with Regret, then disappointed with the album. But I'm still waiting for my first gig, that would be the real thing.

I remember reading 98 as being my most anticipated gig. My 18th birthday was all but forgotten and getting hypothermia the night before was all worth it!

liverpool royal court...new order..the smiths and the fall..i have never rushed and worried about getting a ticket for any other gig in my life...it sold out very quickly...the anticipation of the gig was immense...as oft the case the actual reality of the night was a dissapointment...short set...on first...but when the postman brought the ticket..!!

G-mex 86 for me.A levels done and dusted and failed(second time).Had the tickets for weeks,about 15 or 20 friends or acquaintances going,promised to be the last great blow out before life kicked in!A great day,the order not wonderful but not dire and as I've said before Mac singing Ceremony.Went on to greater gigs but this was like New Order "the whole greater than the sum of the parts".

Agreed.It has some character at least though acoustically it's pretty poor.Rather there than in that barn wembley,as we've both mentioned in another thread.While I'm here I have a question Paul,did you see the Primals when they supported NO at wembley?I read some where that Gillespie fell off the stage can you confirm this,just interested?

yeah,enjoyed it,short sweet and the first time I saw them play LWTUA.Mentioned before though got caught in a rush from the bar though when TPK came on,another gig where no-one expected NO to be on first.Highlight for me was Hatton getting heckled when he suggested we weren't just there for the music but for the cause,dopey fucker.

definitely the first time i saw NO, at red rocks in 1989. it was only the second concert i had ever been to, the opening acts were the sugarcubes and PiL (two excellent bands), and my dad had to drive my friend and i two hours-- down from our little town in the mountains--to the show and back, so it was definitely an 'event'. my heart was just pounding as we drove up to red rocks and then walked up the winding path to the amphitheatre. it was heaven!

Reading 1998.

I'd idolised the band since '85 and assumed I'd missed my chance to ever see them live. The last time they'd visited west coast Australia was '87 and I was too young to sneak into The Red Parrot. Then there was the interminably long hiatus and then the likelihood that they'd split. Such a bitter pill.

As soon as I heard of the unlikely reformation, my path was chosen and my trek to England to see them was a feat of Jarvisian magnitude / craziness.

Needless to say, when they struck the opening bars of Regret I was a mess.

Most eagerly awaited record was "P,C & Lies" the first LP they'd released since I'd become a fan in 1983. The most anticipated concert was L'pool Olympia in 2001 as it had been two and a half years since the gig at Ally Pally and it looked like i'd miss it as tickets were sold out. Thankfully I managed to get hold of some tickets just a week before the show. Such joy and relief when the tickets came through the post.

Being only a huge fan since the end of last year, I remember hearing hints of Get Ready being released, hearing a few MP3s, and rushing to Best Buy to get a copy. And that's when the adventure began :music:

My most anticipated audio release was Low Life, I remember trekking over to Oxford Street from where I was working in the City (in London, for overseas forum members!) and grabbing that tracing paper sleeve. They managed to follow it not a lot later by the biggest disappointment by releasing the Sub-Culture 12"!!!

As for live, then I would echo the G-mex 86 show as the tickets seemed to arrive so long before it, but then it would have to be Reading 98, especially as they were originally playing Phoenix and that got cancelled, so it only came about at the last minute. Once again, the sense of anticipation was immense, and seeing Monaco earlier in the day was a good "taster"

Same here. I got into them just a bit before Brutal, and I remember actually hearing on the radio a few times. Then the first day Get Ready came out in the US, I sat in front of this music store waiting for it to open. When I went to pay for the album, the guy working there noticed I was wearing a New Order shirt and gave me three Crystal promo videos and three Extra Order promo CD's. It was a very good day.
