Never liked them. I think Belgium produces much better music nowadays (dEUS, Dead Man Ray and Zita Swoon, to name a few).

Nothing better after "Geography" which takes us back to 1982. In a way it was a mixture of Joy Division and Kraftwerk. Then odd Up:Evil.
I had a demo for my Amiga called "242". It was revolutionary at the time. It featured camcorder footage of this guy walking around and then into a record shop where he picked up a 242 single. They managed to pack 29MB of data onto one floppy disk to do it and never told anyone how. Those were the days.
Official Version is great. Masterhit I reckon is an all-time classic, WYHIWYG, Rerun Time, Quite Unusual, all wonderful.
I was, I said I WAS a fan. Had "Front by front" and a compilation of earlier work whose name I forgot (it had a soviet thingie on the sleeve). I was also into Poesie Noire, Neon Judgement, KMFDM and the likes. This was 1988-90, I've lost interest since then!
oooh i think they're such a fantastic band. in my opinion, the kind of music they made was very important to the development of music of the New Order variety. the hard dancefloor music they made was some of the very first of its kind (at least 3 years prior to Ian's death/NO's inception). stuff like Blue Monday wouldn't have happened in the same way without singles like U-Men.

I like their early works,but I think the group became too noise and boring after the "tragedy for you" album.

"Religion" was an awfully noisy single!
I sometimes play it at home to annoy the neighbours! 
I think Welcome to Paradise, The Headhunter and the Tragedy For You album were great, though. Front 242 (and their canadian pairs Front Line Assembly) was the kind of band that, just like Ministry and KMFDM, would use TECHNO to make metal music.

I loved Tyranny For You - the rest of their stuff is OK, stuff after Tyranny isn't good - the really early stuff is too dated for me to enjoy today (for the most part). Also the song Animal (gate) is incredible!

After reading your post, I had to listen to my "Religion" single again. The Pussy Whipped Mix By J.G. Thirlwell is a particularly annoying version!
I don't usually listen to Front 242 anymore, but "Front By Front" was my favorite album, mainly because of "Welcome To Paradise".
Loved everything up to and including Tragedy/Tyranny For you. Saw them twice live, even drove 5 hours to see them in Chicago. Then it all went downhill and they dropped off the radar scope. Commando Mix, Work, Agressiva due, Headhunter. Videos were great too.
FYI,F242 R still going strong under their current sideline "Male Of Female" (MorF).Very soundtrack orientated.I suggest you all go and checkout the Speed Tribe DVD to which they provided the score.As a band they are still going strong.Always experimenting with new technologies and fortunately don't suffer the stale 'Industrial' tag that certain bands of that genre still uphold.

im not sure you have your timeline right, AMG guide sezs that their first single was out in 1981, and that their early stuff was very much an imitation of Cabaret Voltaire.
I would think that Joy Division and New Order, as well as Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, and even some Cure and Bauhaus gave alot to the electro-body 80s music, late 80s industrial, new beat, and on to early house and beyond, as well as the gothy type stuff of the 80s. ive never thought of 242 influencing JD/NO, thou both Front 242 and New order could be said to be influenced by the stuff coming out of Germany in the 70s.
have not listened to them at all in the last 10 years thou. like headhunter and welcome to paradise very much at the time.
Saw Front 242 "live" at Town and County in Camden, London, a loooooooooong time ago....
I say "live". They were very energetic, jumping around.
It is amazing what 10 pints of Stella can do to make you enjoy Headhunter ..... LOCK THE TARGET! Ah, those were the days......... (yawn)
