don't think this has gotten decided yet... i didn't think that the 1982 12" and 7" versions should compete against each other.

The 1982 version, the cornerstone of New Order's transformation from Joy Division emulators to an innovative electronic dance act that still knew how to rock.
Substance-era Temptation got me into NewOrder.

I voted for the original 12 and 7'. However, the live version from the NYC Ukranian concert should be mention. It comes at the end of the Movement set in proto-Temptational form. Great to see a work in progress.
Honorable mention to Temptation 98, I like its speed.
12' Version of Temptation '82 is Brilliant, i think the only version of the song i like better is the "saturday Live" Version from bbc2 in '84

I prefer the 87 version over the original for sure.. it's for a reason they re-recorded it in 1987 :D
But the 1998 version totally rocks, its only problem for most of us would be the length, but I seriously think this is the best single version of Temptation ever done.. really good when you do a CD of shorter versions to have more tracks on your CD ;)
well, to be honest i can't decide ... the original is full of energy and is great, honest, and very important in the history of NO, but i can see why the band wanted to remake it in 1987, the 1982 seem produced so loud and treble-end, and Barney's vocals sound funny.
the 1998 version has the drums buried in the mix, the complete opposite of the 1982 versions.
so my answer is that i can't decide
maybe this would be a good time to rerelease "Temptation" as a single, with all the versions on one CD to help promote Retro, International, and Finsbury Park DVD... nahhh, that might make some sense.

Definitely Temptation 82 vintage. Can't be beaten.... the vocals, drums, sound effects at end,primitive synths and synth solo in the 12" are sublime... sound on the 7" different but equally alluring. The version on Taraschvenko is also sublime.
Don't know why they re-recorded this classic.

No one forces anyone to buy it. Anyhow, they need to claw back the money lost to all those mp3 downloaders somehow...
As long as it doesn't divert one second of time from doing some new material I don't mind remakes/remixes.
I like the 98 version, but the original 12" rules.

If that was true we would have in our record collections a London Records CD-single titled "Temptation 1998", wouldn't we?
