The first time I ever saw NewOrder live...

The Reading Festival 1993

what a gig...what memories....

10 years later and here we are with a new album on the cards which seemed a virtual impossibility back then. As we trudged away from the main stage on sunday night with our ears still ringing and in general agreement that we had witnessed some thing incredibly unique that only NewOrder could provide, many of us thought we had sadly seen the last of them...

ah well.. no such luck!! :evil4:

That was a good night......... unease was in the camp. I don't think any of the band were looking at each other.

I just remember World with that fantastic backdrop! Ahh welll........

How's your head. Found mine last Saturday afternoon in my toilet rolling around in a frenzy of toothpaste and the previous night's beer and champagne....

That's one way of not adding to your 3000 total! Just re-edit threads you'd already posted on.

Reading 93. Bit of a wake. One of the worst gigs I've ever attended and a letdown all round. Still, there's more to New Order than just the band and the day out itself was soooperb. Still got many a pic from that day knocking around and also the last day I saw many people that I've, sadly, never even seen since (you listening James Thomas?)..

Not so much that, but exactly the same setlist they'd done at every gig in the US, and had been working up to on the European dates.

I went with a load of people who'd never seen New Order before. They loved it and couldn't understand why I was disappointed...

For me, the highlight of that whole festival weekend was waking up on the Sunday morning and having a smoke-around 7.30-8am - head sticking out of the tent, and hearing the New Order soundcheck - the intro to 'Regret' blasting out...

I never go to festivals unless New Order are playing!

No, but I am reading (about Reading). You did bump into me on your way to the front at Finsbury last year, tried to call you back but to no avail the posse following you didn't help. Piss wet through cold and fed up I gave up following after abut 20yds. I will make more of a effort next time.

Reading 93 was terrible, not only was I bandaged, the performance wasn't up to much and yet again I was a victim of Alex's opening song scam.

P.S. Nice shot of you on the big screen at Move

Been at Reading & Leeds this weekend for Ladytron. Took a look at someones programme, there's a section devoted to previous Festivals & for '93 it says how rumours abound of NOs last ever gig. Then for '98, they don't even get a mention!, just a load of stuff on the spat between The Beasties & The Prodigy about the lyrics to 'Smack My Bitch Up'.

Fuckin great craic that was, except for being murdered by the Dinasour Jr fans.....which has been mentioned several times on here:lol:

Cracking gig! Just a pity we had to wait another 5 years to see the bastards again;)

Now that Reading is a weekend of Metal Hell you wouldn't find me anywhere near it, but someone lent me a copy of last year's programme and the Order's '98 set was up there in a feature on the top 5 legendary Reading appearances. It said "it was a very emotional night for the band and their fans".

Yeah, TIRED and emotional more like it!!!

Did anyone happen to catch Death In Vegas at Reading this year? They did a pretty boring set for the most part and I was just about to leave until they did a fantastic instrumental cover of "Age of Consent". It made my weekend!

You are 'kin joking.

Saw half the DiV set at Leeds, same as you, got bored & wandered back to the R1 tent for Polyphonic Spree.

Martin, you're right, the nights I was there, the main stage was a metal fest, absolute dog shit. Didn't go near it the whole w/e. But the R1 tent was sound. Ladytron, Interpol, Electric 'Gay Bar' Six, Mull HS, Elbow [remember the Olympia?] & The Spree. All quality. With some decent acts in the Dance tent, check out BUCK 65.
