Vicious Streak on the radio

I was completely amazed and astonished to hear Vicious Streak played on our local radio station (WHFS) shortly after midnight Sunday morning. The DJ said she'd had a hard time picking among the tracks on GR to play.

Outbreaks of Getting Things Ready across nations, whatever next.

The only GR offerings served up by the UK DJ's has been, wait for it, Crystal. Radio 1 had an interview with Hooky on Sunday and he was on about the Apollo gigs and how they were just going to get up there, play their best and be themselves. I thought, great, play a good song now... the station then put Crystal on again.

I heard 1963 (1995 version) on the way to work about 2 months ago and nearly crashed my vehicle... which, I'm sure you'll agree, would have been a really, really bad move.

Hey, Huntsy. I can certainly understand that hearing any version of 1963 come on the radio would most definitely be likely to lead to road mayhem or worse. I take it that the UK has only national radio stations, whereas we have only local ones?

Anyway, Huntsy, on the subject of Pringles, wouldn't you agree that the real reason they're called crisps is that they aren't really slices of potato but rather ground and formed potato flakes, with some corn meal added?

That's a great point P, I just don't have the answer for you at the moment. Only guesswork. The marketing of Pringles has been a very well organised procedure, I would not doubt that they initially made the decision to try and inflict damage onto the good word of the humble crisp. Who knows, in twenty years our children maybe saying to each other... do you want to go to the shops for a bag of pringles?... the mind boggles.

P... their are hundreds of radio stations here in Blighty, however, the local ones are total rhubarb. They are even less likely to play Crystal let alone any beauties off Getting Things Ready. All they do is rotate the current top 40 whilst a local boy squawks like a wounded badger.

So, Huntsy, you're telling me the "crisp" concept pre-dates Pringles? It's just a week to the U.S. release of Get Roddy; I expect it will enter the charts at about, say, #256. I actually realized that if I heard 1963 on the radio I would have to take very drastic action because I would know I was hallucinating. 1963 on the radio would be simply impossible. Thanks for your kind words of welcome. I was wandering the wilds of California, feeling very cut off.

Patty, you have had to wait a good while for the Get Ready release... perhaps now you can begin to appreciate the frustration at having to wait about 15 decades for US stuff to be released in the UK. The microwave was first shown last Christmas and to this day my mum insists it will give me chicken pox.

I didn't know there was any 'wilds' of California. I once visited Venice beach and stood in front of the guy called 'Echo Man'... that was a very odd occurence. I really wasn't sure what he was trying to achieve? - and all the while I kept hearing his voice miles away, repeating.

Did you come across any bears?

When I said "wilds" I really meant Los Angeles. I was only driven through Venice; didn't glimpse any bears, but did consume numerous tubes of Pringles.
