Ive been saying this for years... You just cant beat Chosen Time` at 3:30 am on a saturday morning, full blast - it blows me away
one thing I've never understood was why Movement was so shite, when the singles/b-sides released around that time were all amazing.

That's a good point, Sebsy. I never thought of it that way... But it's true : "Movement" certainly pales in comparison with the singles. Although, if you think of it, there was only, Ceremony/In A Lonely Place, that were JD songs. The other singles came out in 82, I think...
I might give Movement another go tonight in the early hours of the morning in between the 10 mins. free slots on Sky.
The last time I played Movements it really brought a lot of memories back, mostly of birds of yore. Its a cliche but it really is heavy and depressing... just like a stale pastie.

I limit my consumption of the good stuff to weekend bouts otherwise I'd be the size of an average house end. I might brew up a cup of Horlicks after thee lass hits the sack and sit like a bastard with my phones on anticipating the glory days like an overused mule... If it gets boring though I'll be back to Television X for a quick shufty.
I can't, if I want to hear Movement really punish my lobes I'll have to encase my entire head module with restrictors...
only Huntsman can release untold war onto the world whence the lady has left the building on a night out... then the neighbours pay for having such a strange dog called Gipsy.

Yes, Chosen Time is really a favourite... I'd include it on any best of any time :)
glad you found it out. what about the Peel session versions of those movement songs? They give me the shivers everytime i listen to them. Un******believable such a power and melancholy . Reminds me of days gone by... Mario

ICB is just the best, Chosen Time as well. Movement is a damn good album (probably their most underrated). i personnally love how, as Muffy said, New Order are trying really hard not to sound like Joy Division and failing miserably at it. It really fits in after Closer or any of the live JD concerts I have on boot.
I always thought that Dreams Never End, Truth and Doubts Even Here were great tracks.
And I'd really LOVE to hear Truth being played live today, with today's sound and technology. I think it could turn out to be very good... a bit like when The Cure are playing their very old tracks (which THEY do not hesitate to do, even if it means to play 32 songs sets for nearly 3 hours).
I was mesmerized by the rendition of All Cats Are Gray that was done on the Dream Tour. I think New Order could do the same with Truth, today. But Bernard doesn't give a damn...

All Cats are Grey is a favourite Cure song of mine. Have just burnt a CD of the early singles, best Peel tracks and stuff off movement and played it on my way to Manchester and there are top tunes there no doubt, Procession, IALP, Too Late, Chosen Time, Dreams Never End, EGG and Dreams Never End to name a few.
Yeah, I'll probably put some Movement on later on...
My favorite Cure track is "10:15 Saturday Night". Anyone else a big fan of that early Cure stuff? Anything from 79-86 (Staring At The Sea) kicks ass

Three Imaginary Boys / Faith / Seventeen Seconds / Pornography... wow...
They released an album EACH YEAR at that time.

I remember hearing that The Cure were the most prolific act of the Eighties or something like that, and looking over their career retrospective you can believe it. Staring At The Sea is 16-17 singles' worth, in 7 years. I guess you could say Robert Smith's got something going for him
It's funny how this thread managed to morph into a Cure discussion. I've nothing against the Cure you understand but why don't you two get a room together?

Seventeen Seconds sounds like it could be a Joy Division record. Faith's a little too dark, but there's an obvious JD influence on the Cure.
To quote 'Q' magazine's review of 'Get Ready' "there was a time it was said New Order only had two types of songs - the one that was photocopied by The Cure... the other ploughed a parallel furrow to the Pet Shop Boys" many is the time I've shown that quote to the baldie Cure loving Scottish twat I work with, who insists the ripping off has been done by New Order.
Cash for Questions: Robert Smith is asked how many songs he figures he ripped off New Order. He says not as much as they ripped the Cure off. Professional rivalry, perhaps?
the main difference is that New Order changed (pop)music, which can't be said for the Cure with it's pathetic looking frontman. Please stop talking about the Cure , i am just getting in the mood for oct. 12

To me they are the best ever in music history. I can't thinkl of any particular song i do not like. I even like World in motion! To me ,that is their strenght: to make albums that contain just brilliant songs.

World in Motion terrible??? Purleasee! 
It was N.O. first and only number 1 single in the UK.I admit the lyrics can for trying,especially for a non-footballing nation ;),but it has its moments.
Originally the track was an instrumental written by Steve and Gillian for a BBC tv youth prog back in 1988/89 called Reportage.
BTW,never heard the lyrics "fighting for England"mentioned.
