Fine Time ....what fine time ?!? I must admit to always starting Technique at the second track.
Also, on Low-life I always skip Love Vigilantes. That definitely is a load of rubbish. Again they have done me a favour by putting it on as first track.

Benny's hated ten is fairly well documented on several other threads, but currently comprises :
Fine Time Shite of the Nation Confusion All Day Long Every Little Counts Weirdo Run Slow Jam Run Wild Turn My Way
Fook knows why that posted twice !
Even though I hate the above-listed ten twice as much as any other track.....
The one's i don't like....
Times change Rock the shack Slow Death State of the pension Subdubculturevulture

Originally posted by Snucker hmm. about half of technique doesn't strike me as impressive. i know, a lot people love this album, and i don't get it. it has some weak tracks....about a third of it is weak. guilty partner, all the way and loveless are sugary and boring. i can't tell the difference between these three songs or remember what they sound like off the top of my head. i'm warming up to round and round though, but even that strike me as forgetable.technique is an ok record, half of it is brilliant (mr. disco is by far the strongest track
), the other half is mediocre.
Contrary to most Technique fans, I hate Mr Disco, and I think that Round & Round is a rather weak song! Run is so-so, and Fine Time is a good joke but nothing more (I wouldn't say that I hate it, though I'm sick of it after hearing it 327 times on Retro). The other 5 songs are very good, imho. So it seems that my rating of Technique songs is very different to the common one, except for Vanishing Point and Dream Attack that nearly everybody rates high like I do.

It's still in the worst ten though !
well the major beat me to Rock the Shack...will certainly stir up some controversy with...SHUG

it's alright. but in some pictures, it makes his head look weird. i don't what it is, but there's something about that haircut, especially watching the perfect kiss video, that makes his ears stick out and his head a shape of a turnip or some other vegetable, and his eyes rounder than usual. ![]()
Good lord, I can't believe how many people hate things that I love and that are dear to me :( . In truth, the only song a lot of people love, that I do not, is probably Dreams Never End. I happen to think its a highlight of the album, but thats not saying much for a garbage album. Im also not at all a fan of Confusion, but then again who is (I hate both versions), and there's one thing that I can agree with at least some of the band members about and that is blue monday, they seemed tired of playing it live at least a decade ago, and if they still feel so, I see no reason why they couldn't just ditch it, and instead play old, rarely played classics (like Age of Consent, Leave Me Alone, Love Vigilantees, Lonesome Tonight, 1963, maybe Procession, and a classic or two from Technique like Loveless, or All the Way or even Mr. Disco or Run). I think the touring process for most bands is much more enjoyable when they can vary their repertoire. I know that the Rolling Stones have suggested, and R.E.M. as well, in recent years, that rehearsing old, and rarely played songs to play out on tour made touring refreshing again. I think they might actually get a kick out of something like that. Imagine playing a gig that was say, 90 minutes long and featured:
Encore: 13. Crystal 14. True Faith 15. 1963
Anyway, while I'm shocked at some of your tastes, at least all of us seem to share loving the band in common, if for different, and sometimes dramatically different, reasons.

Well, if our friend Barney can't even sing Temptation without reading the lyrics, what would happen if he tried to perform "Cries And Whispers" or "Sooner Than You Think"? A disaster. ![]()
You've got it all wrong.. yea yea
They dont make bad music!
everything they do is great :D :D :D :D
I've never understood the hype for:
Fine Time Sunrise True Faith (I don't usually skip it when I'm letting Substance play through but when I made an NO compilation I left it off) Blue Monday (Haven't caught on until very recently... it always seemed kind of boring to me, the melody doesn't go anywhere, there's no buildup) Age of Consent World in Motion, Confusion & Shellshock (But do these even need mention?)
I don't hate "State of the Nation" as much as everyone else seems to. I'll let it play through. "Confusion", though, just annoys me. And "Fine Time" is a crappy way to start off a CD.

Yeah me too. I don't get "You're much too young to hang around with me" Why too young... for what...? Is it a hooligan's song?

WHy does he read the lyrics? Are you sure? Though I saw a computer display at the Reading 98 show with the lyrics on. But it is way to be Elvis in his worse mood on Las Vegas stage in 1975. So I don't believe. I think, our friend Barney knows what to sing, hasn't got off the hooks.

Sure it's "hang" ?

He needs an autocue because, allegedly, E and Pernod have a memory-obliterating function when combined in large quantities over several years.

Benny, have you experienced in E yourself that much? Do you believe in that? I drink heavy since I was 12, though don't mix it with E.
OK the list of Not quite great songs grows longer, original confusion, most of get ready and republic, shellshock, blue monday after 5 minutes does get boring, the other songs on low life other than love vigilantes i am surprised to see so many people not rating run and all the way as good though. to be harsh..... the reason you don't get so many of these songs is because you don't really like them, its probably time you listened to some other bands and grew up and stopped naval gazing at songs written 15 years ago that are not going to get any better on the hundredth listen, you may indeed have discovered that the kiss of death and the beach are better than the A sides but that was just a discovery, in the past. and now you are tired of these too. this is your brain telling you that what you have done is getting a bit sad. so give them a rest go and listen to Zwan (mighty). but i am being harsh, you do have to play a song to death to find out how good it is. this is human nature in microcosm. so play on, now where did i put substance (track 6+11)and track 3 PCL and track 8 LL and trak 7 of Brotherhood (the only ones i haven't really got bored of to be honest)
Only three special mentions:
-World in Motion: funny but not much more. And I don't like the backing vocals at all. And Keith Allen ![]()
-Spooky: maybe the NO worst single. Ex aequo with 60 MPH.
-Confusion: good song, but I can't understand it's greatness. Not a classic for me. Only another song with really awful remixes...
There are also many other songs I don't like very much: Such a good thing, Behind closed doors, ICB, The Beach, etc.
But only a few. At least NO are also great in thier misses or bad stuff.
