Admit it - which NO song do you just not get?

Which NO song does everyone else rave on and on and on about, yet no matter how many times you listen to it, you just don't get that great vibe that everyone else feels.

For me it's two songs and an album. The Perfect Kiss, yes I know it's a good song and it is enjoyable, but I don't feel it's as good as everyone makes it out to be. Even the massive 5 hour long version or whatever it is. Also, Dream Attack. It's not even that memorable, I always confuse it with Guilty Partner.

Also, no matter how much I listen to Low-life, it just pales in comparison to Brotherhood and PCL to me. Love Vigilantes is very good though...

So what are yours?

Confusion and Temptation. They both kill NewOrder for me.

I'm not very fond of Confusion either. Perhaps I would have been in 1983. And, unlike most people, I quite like State of the nation.

Confusion and Finetime. Always skip forward.

Fine Time and Perfect Kiss most likely.

There's just ONE NewOrder song that I don't like: We all stand As for the rest... of course, even I can't say they're all perfect, god-like tunes, but even the sub-standard ones (SOTN, RTS, etc...) are above any competition!

There are three songs that nearly every NO fan loves, and not me: BLT (Bro'hood version), TBTHOG and R&R. Three rather boring songs, in my humble opinion. I just don't get all the hullabaloo about them.

Regarding the rating of the albums, I find Brotherhood their worst album ever, while most fans would rate it in their top 3 along with Low-life and Technique.

Please don't kill me, it's my very first entry to this forum: I just can't listen to the whole Low-life-album! Except for Sunrise, Love Vigilantes and This Time of Night it's such a waste of time for me... simply don't understand the hype.

Crystal. Wouldn't even feature in my NO Top 50! How some people can call it a "classic" defeats me.

And like many others I don't rate Low Life at all. Very dated sounding synth-stabs and strings. PC&L and Brotherhood are both pretty timeless but Low Life just screams "the 80's" to me.

It would be Confusion and Sunrise for me. Confusion seems to have no energy, it just lies there twitching lamely, whereas Sunrise is just a godawful mess. But these are personal opinions, so please don't flame me!!!

i don't hate it but it's 'Regret' for me. i just find it very ordinary. the only song i really don't like is 'such a good thing', i cringe every time i hear it, embarrassingly bad IMO.

Actually thinking back Someone Like You isnt that wonderful I dont think.

Its the cheesy chorus and the backing singing that makes it grate...

Still i'd love to see the infamous video

We All Stand.

It should be called "We All Can't Stand It".

Other terrible songs: World In Motion, Touched By The Hand of God and Shellshock.

Blue Monday :D

Seriously.. I knew the song, but I never quite enjoyed it...

Fine Time too... all the rest of Technique is pure joy though.

Sunrise, and Run. I never thought highly of Run so when I found out it's a fan favorite I was mostly surprised.

I also like The Perfect Kiss but have no idea what the lyrics are on about.

It use to be confusion for me< I never quite liked it until I finally heard the version that is on Retro Pop disc. So I find myself suddenly listening to is more often than I use to.

Other song were Fine time, Special, elegia. But those grew on me, I like those tracks alot now.

hmm. about half of technique doesn't strike me as impressive. i know, a lot people love this album, and i don't get it. it has some weak tracks....about a third of it is weak. guilty partner, all the way and loveless are sugary and boring. i can't tell the difference between these three songs or remember what they sound like off the top of my head. i'm warming up to round and round though, but even that strike me as forgetable.

technique is an ok record, half of it is brilliant (mr. disco is by far the strongest track:cool: ), the other half is mediocre.

The only thing i dont like about Technique is its too short!! (oh an it starts with FineTime!)

I think that its 'sugary' vibe is quite refreshing for a NewOrder album, coming off the back of Brotherhood and LowLife its a welcome change i feel from the more 'drag your heels' type stuff they were grinding out in the mid 80's which although spot on is countered nicely by the more uplifting vibe that Technique offers i feel :)

I used to dislike We All Stand as well. But I found that after heavy rotation of PCL (the original version not the version w/ Blue Monday and The Beach), We All Stand makes PCL a cohesive album. Also, seeing them play it live on that PFD video makes a difference as well. Sure, I guess anyone can like anything after repeated listens, or else go mental. =)

What I dislike still is Spooky (makes me cringe). And the lyrics to more recent songs are getting a little out of hand (like Crystal). And repeated playback by DJs and the like of the Shep Pettibone mix of BLT is making absolutely shudder at the next time I chance hearing it again. *shudder*

I read an article saying it was the very first song about AIDS... did anyone ever hear something about this?

i have to break ranks here and admit that I do not share the general consensus that World in Motion is the finest thing New Order ever committed to vinyl, much less the greatest achievement of mankind. I know I'll take a lot of flak for it, but someone has to be willing to admit the truth......'cause this time, it's PERSONNAL! (Just always wanted to use that line)

Yes, WIM is a fine tune if you want to remind yourself how bad the Eighties really were, but I can't agree with the majority on this one

:D

i don´t agree with all the polls results of this site. I may have something to say about this:

we all stand is a great song (yes it is) low life is NOT the best album. brotherhood is. temptation is NOT the best song. perfect kiss is. dream attack is NOT the best track on technique. run is NOT a masterpiece. just a (good?) song. your silent face is BORING. state of the nation RULES. special is NOT so special vicious streak is the worst of get ready such a good thing is HORRIBLE etc, etc, etc

but I respect the majority even though I don´t share its thoughts ;)

Don't think it's a song about AIDS at all. I know that's what was written in some book, but I think that's nonsense. It's just about these two friends, one doesn't know if he wants to stay in and whack off or just go out and he gets a drop-in visit by his friend who's down on the dumps and happens to be carrying a gun and wants to shoot himself. It might be about a gay relationship, but that's just just an assumption.

from republic:

Regret World Ruined in a Day Spooky Everyone Everywhere Young Offender Liar Chemical Times Change Special Avalanche

from get ready:

Crystal 60 Miles an Hour Turn My Way Vicious Streak Primitive Notion Slow Jam Rock the Shack Someone Like You Close Range Run Wild Behind Closed Doors

and of course, all the singles from these albums, and remixes, and also:

blue monday '88 world in motion mixes touched by the hand of God 2000 all the new mixes of '? the best of' some of the mixes from '? the rest of' the confusion mixes '90, pump panel etc.. true faith '94 nineteen63 -95 some of the blue monday '95 mixes true faith 2001 mixes here to stay..

-1... isn't that pratically 2/3 of NO's catalog???

Anyway, I decided to elaborate...

Love Vigilanties isn't all that special. Sunrise sucks. Face-Up is one of thier best tracks ever. Brotherhood is good but definitly not thier best. Shellshock should NEVER be called 'Shellcock'! It's just ANNOYING!!!! (Besides, it's a decent tune) Run is boring and skippable Vanishing point is stupid (but I still love it) Spooky is alright Young Offender is awesome Liar and Times Change (yes, Times Change) are very good

ah jeez...I forgot Fine Time. I'd blocked it out...

:D:D:D:D:D anita...confusion, temptation, fine time
