well, everybody should have had a chance to see the movie now and get the DVD....

so how do you think they (moviemakers) portrayed what really went down???

i think the movie seems to understate just how absurd Factory records was run by Wilson, the movie simplifies it too much... which seems odd that a movie would understate things.

and of course, the absurd unprecendented success of New Order is barely touched... i know Barney is not quite the obvious star personality, but then they could have played up that angle, about how New Order succeeded so much critically AND commercially while being uncomfortable with the "rock star" image, how they were an "anti" pop band of average people, without the cliched frontman image. backed by an independant record label run without any traditional business sense... plus, the scene of Barney singing "Blue Monday" emotionally acoustic-style in the studio... that would have NEVER have happened, wouldn't he be embarrassed? (esp. in 1983?), or am i mistaken?

what are some things that happened that were ignored/changed by the movie that Tony Wilson does not speak of in the commentary??

It seems like the movie missed some major parts of a great story... and it is a great story.

... but then it is still a good movie...

Sure they were selective and used artistic liscence but what the hey, it's still a great film.

The Wilson commentary is quite good too.

Unlike a lot of the people on here I wasn't there to experience the story first hand. I love the movie because it gives me the chance to see at least what it would have been like to be there the first time around (or a slightly skewed interpretation of it).

Better than living in the dark, anyway.

i thought it was absolutely fantastic. i laughed my arse off (thanks primarily to steve coogan). of course, being under 2 hours, and being made for the general public, it's going to gloss over specifics like NO's success, etc. sure it's based on factory records, but it's not meant to be entirely factual. the artistic license wasn't abused and it made for a terrific movie. to paraphrase steve coogan in the film: when it comes to reporting the truth or the legend, always choose the latter--but they did incorporate enough truth to make the film relevant.

I enjoyed it. I have read a few books as I am sure you all have about it and it was good to see it "fleshed out " to some extent. Shame not enough of Ian C or NO but ther you go. The Mondays did make me laugh (and I enjoyed seeing them again!)

I would have preferred a documentary.
