Last night my No.2 son went to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Manchester Arena and reported that they paid tribute to Joy division and New Order and then began to play a NO song and then stopped. Which one it was I don't know. Bearing in mind that I was probably being wound up(you know what teenagers can be like) can anyone who was there tell me actually what did happen?

Can't say if this actually happened, but it's not entirely implausible. John Frusciante at least is a big JD/NO admirer (so is ex-Chili Dave Navarro).

Probably New Dawn Fades - they've done it before. I'll find out.

I did ask him whether it was NDF and he said how does it go. After doing an air guitar solo over the breakfast weetabix I was told that it wasn't NDF. Now that could have been down to my less than faithful rendition. His friend who was staying over then announced that he was becoming concerned about his father too!!!! Although that was on account of him bringing home a Coldplay CD. When I showed him my Zwan CD I could see him coming to the conclusion that perhaps ,yes, there is life after 40 and perhaps I was a little cooler than his Dad ;)

I thought I read somewhere that recently, maybe 6 months ago, John Frusciante and Flea formed a JD cover band for only one gig....and then disbanded it...bah!

Yes, it was New Dawn Fades that they did at the Paradisio in Amsterdam.. I have that mp3 somewhere, and it was online when we had all the covers online (might put them back now that space is not an option)

But for last night, no idea.. find a RHCP fan site which has a forum and tracklists.. you'll have it!

No wait...

Did everyone forget Chad and John's rendition of Blue Monday by New Order?

then..

Can't believe nobody knew what blue monday was when Chad and John started playing it, that was the highlight for me!

Thanks for the credit on the news item, Nic. Can't believe my lad failed to recognise BM despite further interrogation over dinner last night. He will undergo an immediate programme of re-education.

They played Blue Monday last year as well. Here's a list of their covers through the years.

Would have been an interesting rendition. Good to see someone of a vastly different style have a go at it.

Im a RHCP fan anyways.
