Carrying the weight of being New Order Online's funniest, best looking and most helpful factual member / moderator is no easy thing you know :nod: Seeing as I'm coming up to the big 5000, I have decided to give you all a wee present, well, all of you who have PAL VHS that is, I do apologise to our friends who haven't got it (I will think of something else for you) Last night I put together one of the finest 3hr videos in the world, "the world" I hear you say, "aye" says The Shugster. The video features New Order at their fucking finest, it contains many tracks that none of us have seen live in such a long time, but, it also features a few more recent songs as well, something fer all New Order fans you could say;) I started this project at 5.30 last night, and finally finished the video at 3 o clock this morning (3 hours before I had to get up fer work) :nonono: I had to search through all my live video's to find the best available stuff.....BIG mistake, I should've been my usual lazy self and thought "fuck it, the Onliners are all wankers anyway" :lol: This is a ROLL CALL so I can see how many of you would like a copy, I am guessing there'll be at least 75 so this is one helluva stupid fookin thing to take on, but it'll keep me away from the pub till me and Donnie Brasco fly off to America to see Celtic v Man U in July, currently I am £400 behind budget, so I will not be able to buy the blank video's. The Video is gonna be titled "True Faith"

Details havnae been finalised, but it'll probably consist of people sending me a blank vid in a jiffy bag. I have never asked any fans for any money for vids, cd's or tapes, I believe if yer a true fan and you can help someone out, then why not? This was a tradition bestowed upon me by Muffster, and latterly Jarvo, Timbo, Old Blue & Rocket, they sent me stuff when I never even asked (and to all the friends I have made trading stuff, from America, France, Holland, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, Australia.....and so on) so It's great that the Onliners share their stuff. For the Aussie contingent I may have to ask for a fiver to cover postage costs, I should be able to pay for all the British and European postage though. Final details will be announced at a later date.

It could be possible to convert the material to three VCDs, which could then be shared with our US friends with DVD players, if someone can hook up their VCR to their PC (they'll need a massive hard drive mind), and convert it all.

If I do buy a larger hard drive (my 20 GB one is bursting at the seams, and I'm looking to a 120GB monster), I certainly don't mind having a go at this :)

PAL is one of the TV/video standards used in europe, and is NOT compatible with the standards in other countries/regions (like north america)..unless you have the proper equipment..

i live in the US, and my parents have an multi-format VCR player that supports pal/secam/ntsc so it will work..

let me know the shipping costs, because i would like a video also, (and will send you a cd-r with all the tracks i'm converting)..

Problem is.. loss of quality.

All the videos that are online here (except those on Substance 1989 and the Best of from Japan I have or NewOrderStory) were transfers from a PAL tape Dennis Remmer sent me, which was converted by Colin Law (the owner of the old Ceremony web site).. and the quality is lost in the process.

I'd be VERY happy to get my hands on a full MPEG transfer of those videos, or being able to put them to MPEG easily for putting them on VCD, this way it can be seen on the DVD player or something like that.

But still, it's a good deal, because I'll never see those TOTP videos otherwise.. I already have many things from Shug, many things I already had and some serious good stuff, but it got very loussy in the conversion, so it's not really enjoyable.

Hurray to the digital age :D

But that's a great idea though, it would be a very nice idea if Shug knew someone with a video capture card to put those on normal CD-Roms, it would cost less and would be timeless :evil4:

That's probably the best option... Shug should send you his original one day like he did to me, cost a lot to ship back, but it has done the job :D

Unfortunatly, a french friend of mine did a transfer from his PAL VCR to a NTSC VCR, and the result is questionnable.. I've never seen the original, so I weren't able to compare..

Well, at least we'll see them..

Remember that I'd very like to have those video so I can convert them and put them online here (in a streaming format, not a full 10 MB/min MPEG, this would be too big)

NTSC is an acronym for National Television System Committee.

PAL is an acronym for Phase Alternating Line.

Just a thought Shuglet, what sort of equipment do you have available for this exercise? It's spawning into something of a monster. Is your hardware up to it? Also, you could conceivably keel over from stamp toxification - a similar thing occurred on Seinfeld once.

Yea shuggzy send me over each song on a seperate 5minute vhs tape that way i wont have to fast forward and use the tapecounters if i fancy watching a particular song

Right, here's how it works......

Cap'n Slacky and Ben, you's will have to wait a wee bit longer for the other vids I promised ye's.

I only have video to video, so it's gonna be a long process, I can only copy 1 (maybe2) a day. I will work my way through the list, so have a bit of patience peeps, I will write all the names down and choose 10 at random, all you have to do is send a blank video in a jiffy bag to the address I give you through e-mail...it's as simple as that. I'm gonna try and pay all the postage myself, so don't worry about sending money. For all the Americans / Canadians on the list, my mate Jeff will get you lot sorted, but send me yer address' anyway for reference (and future possible gifts) Jeff, I will do another "Original" video just for you, so you lot over there have the best possible copy, I'll try and get it done this weekend, but it's gonna be a bastard goin through all my vids again!

Hope that's cleared everything up, any problems tell me in your e-mail. (I have just cleared all my old mails, so there shouldnae be a problem)

Note for all the Americans / Canadians interested in the vid:

I will be doing a 2nd Original just for you lot this weekend, it will be sent to Jeff White my co-moderator on Behind Closed Doors, from there, he has assured me that he will transfer the video over to NTSC or whatever it is called, and distribute them to you lot......he has promised to give me half the profits when I come over in July :lol: I have already sent video's off to my pals from here, obviously I still have quite a few to do, so all of you who have received video's before, if they are not there on Monday, they will be with you soon. Tomorrow, I will be sending 10 e-mails to people who have sent me their details vial e-mail, then next Saturday the next 10, and so on till the project is finished.

I have no problem with people copying them for friends.....BUT I do not want to see any of the vids on E-bay or elsewhere being sold! This will really piss me off, as I'm doing this at great expense for free. BE WARNED.

Vid arrived at my home address (not my work !) this morning, as I was about to go out and get on a train to Havant to watch the City. Needless to say, I had a sudden switch of priorities, and ended up sat in front of a telly for three hours ! Much appreciated, some great old memories came back watching some of the clips :) One thing though, where's Ceremony from ?

Blank tape ready to post back, along with some Benny's goodies in return.

Cheers for the package!The video i have NOT viewed yet but the sticker on the outside is SUPERB.Full tracklisting and in true FACTORY style there is an error.Well a spelling mistake!:pVIGILANTIES is VIGILANTES really.But this in no way takes anything from the fact that you must have spent LOADS of time,money and effort doing these.Well done and will post a review when i have figured out how to get it out the box.And anyhow this will be a lot better that the CRAP sounding,no tracklisting CD-Rs from PLANET ROCKET STUDIOS!But so would a tin of CORNBEEF!:D

Ceremony is from Brixton Academy 12/10/2001 if my memory serves me correctly, the gig I was at when Hooky also plays the AOC solo (which as you will know is also on the tape) Depending on yer goodies, I'll send you the full concert;)

All the videos that are online here (except those on Substance 1989 and the Best of from Japan I have or NewOrderStory) were transfers from a PAL tape Dennis Remmer sent me, which was converted by Colin Law (the owner of the old Ceremony web site).. and the quality is lost in the process.

Jeez Nic - I'd forgotten about that! I remember sitting up most of the night putting that tape together and drinking Bacardi. You did some CDRs/VCDs of those at the time, didn't you? Glad they worked out then :) I think I still have those MP3 CDRs in the vault as well.

I've just secured a FBN7 Factory Complication video in good condition (cost me about $50 - worth it) - have been thinking of archiving what I can to DVD - unless someone else is planning such a grand project... The NO footage is terrific - very early.

mine turned up this morning, thanks shug, you're a complete star! have only had the chance to watch the first few songs so far but am thoroughly enjoying it, especially as someone who's a recent convert so i didn't see all this stuff the first time round. really looking forward to seeing the rest of it but i'm off to the states for two weeks tomorrow and i think my other half might get a bit offended if i spend the whole evening watching my new video...

A thousand million thank yous, Shug. I got my video in the post yesterday. He's only even gone and put proper annotated labels on the box and spine too. What a professional! I'm filling up now.

Frustratingly, I've got to get all my end of tax year accounts paperwork out the way today so hopefully I can relax tonight and watch 3 hours of genius with a beer and a fish supper.

July the 10th Myself and Donovan land in New York, staying there till the 18th I think, then off to Seattle for the Celtic v Man Utd game at the Seahawks Stadium on the 22nd, we'll be departing on the 24th. We put a roll call up a while back, we'd like to meet as many Onliners as we can, I think Jim Giliberto and a couple of others from the New York area are gonna try and join us for a cold beverage or two, and we're definitely meeting up with Jeff, Bri Go, April, AgentWood & Green in Seattle.

Again, all those who enjoyed the video, nice one, and it is best if you follow the instructions in my wee notes:D

did i put that? what am i like, my sincere apoligies. :ah; to be honest shugs i was the little worst for wear at the post office with it being a saturday morning (i'd bin drinking the old 'k' cider the nite before and feeling a bit shaky, disorientated and all that). if you notice i even put the post code on the back of the jiffy bag because i could'nt remember putting it on the address paper. and i was gonna send a self addressed jiffy bag for you, so you see, i got it all wrong. smack legs for me then. i'll make it up to you shugs, when i get you a little treat;)

Got the video on Saturday and we watched it in one go - brilliant - lots of stuff I didn't already have. Highlights - Confusion, Face Up & Bernard's dramatic Swedish fall!

Thanks for the video Shugz, watched it this weekend, 3 hours of bliss. It's brilliant to see those 80s TOTP TV clips again after so many years a distant memory. In the dark ages before I had a video recorder I can remember having my tape recorder up close to the tv speaker to audio record them - we were poor then, but 'appy.

It's funny seeing the steady lowering of Hooky's bass as the years progress, he soon won't be able to get back up again. "Thieves Like Us" done on TOTP is pure class, I haven't seen that for 19 years! How did Bernard get into those jeans ? Not only has he solved the debate as to which side he dresses, he's also answered the cavalier or roundhead argument. Watching Bernard acid dance to "Fine Time" made me think how far they'd come in just under 10 years since "Transmission".

My favourite stuff has to be the 5 songs from "Music Box"? I thought I saw everything they did in the mid 80s, how did I miss that programme - was it satellite only ? Was it part of a longer programme? Barney on his cowbell, Hooky on his mini-drums just like old times.

PS, love the hidden track right at the end of my tape. Did everyone get that ? One minutesworth of Countdown. I got the conundrum - it was Confusion.

Received my copy this morning - cheers Shug. OK, I've watched all the TOTP stuff and forwaded through the rest (watch properly when time allows), so here's a review of the former. Before though, I have to say that this is a real treat for those of us who were 'much too young' (I'm 20) to see a lot of this the first time round:

Blue Monday: Always thought this was one of Hooky's best TV performances - real live bass and powerful. Thieves: Really 'raw', Bernard's 'ooh ooh oohs'give it another dimension. True Faith:I'm sure I remember seing a different performance of this on TOTP2 a few years back. Fine Time: Surreal.Barney on an acid trip, Steve looking like a good schoolboy playing with his new toy.I bet the producers weren't happy with the former's antics - were there complaints? Thursday night family viewing and all. Round&Round:Great crowd atmosphere, Barney must have cased a jewellers' pre-show by the looks of him. Regret: Never knew they did a studio performance. World:Barney looking all professional and a mid song solo as well! Ruined:Preferred this version to the album; but what was Hooky wearing? Someone should have told him they weren't doing a sat link from the Baywatch set again. Crystal:Hooky has definitely not aged as well as the rest. Here to stay: Hooky beating the shit out of his drumpads: to the bemusement of the crowd - they weren't even turned on either! Calm it Mr Hook!

Just one more comment, on let's go - Hooky to someone in crowd: 'shut it big mouth'.

Yes there were complaints about the infamous Acid dancing, or maybe it was the NME exaggerating at the time. Regret "Studio" was done a couple of weeks after the performance of Baywatch from California. Ther "Other" True Faith you probably have seen was from the ITV show The Roxy....Barney wears a "Don't Do Drugs" T-shirt, unfortunately my copy of this performance is not of the highest standard. Glad you enjoyed it me ole mooker.

Recording has stopped for a week or so - till I get another original done. I was gonna be doing it today or tomorrow......but I'm aff to Manchester for the weekend to go drinking with Baldy:D

Fantastic, vid arrived yesterday Shug (package is in the post to you), and you're right, once you put it on you can't stop. Wonderful memories, and one really scary one - Barney's shorts on the Rock Around The Clock session. I'd long forgotten about that!

Just seeing all that lot in one go is too much. Even the wife watched a bit, although NO's not quite her thing.

BTW, where's the Vanishing Point recording from?

What can I say Shuggy - three solid hours of some of the crappest dancing and most off-key singing I've ever seen. Brilliant!

Highlights were a few TOTP performances I'd never seen, like the Technique era ones (Steve's shirts, world class), and Here To Stay (I was unable to see this one at the time :cry: ).

Also cracking version of The Village, Let's Go was fairly immense, Barney falling on his arse during Crystal, She's Lost Control, all tremendous. And more which I can't think of at the moment since I'm "working". Where on earth did you get some of this stuff??!

Had fun trying to work out when and/or where they were all from. Will have to watch again to figure more of them out!

Many thanks again, I hope to be able to demonstrate similar generosity when I reach my 5000th post. (At this rate, in about 2055 by my calculations.)

If I can ever offer you something from my evidently relatively puny collection, I shall gladly do so.

While I'm here, I'd also like to report on last nights events.....and unbelievably it's ON TOPIC :lol:

Me mate Mark came round at 7 last night, just after I'd finished football (in which I scored a fookin screamer) and told me he'd just been round his aunties where he'd just watched Top Of The Pops, saw New Order doing Crystal....and taught his two young nephews the BARNEY dance :clap:

Somehow or another he managed to get me to go down the pub, in which we did the Barney sidestep all night, all the young girls looked bemused wandering what the fuck we were doing, it was a wee bit mental. I thoroughly believed I had changed Mark into a bonefide New Order supporter :nonono: Once we got back here (with a couple of pals and 3 bottles of wine and a crate of beer we managed to "borrow" from Mark's hoose) I put on the True Faith video, all was well until a row errupted that New Order were the best band that ever lived :lol: The argument raged fer about an hour, until we all agreed that I was right :nod: I am totally fookin hungover - we drank the equivelant of a third world country last night, still twas a great craic.

Drinking is not hard, or clever.....but it's good fun;)
