Best LP opener ?

It struck me today that (with the possible exception of Fine Time) the Order have always had very strong opening tracks to their albums.

So here's a tuffie - which is best ?

It's either Regret or Crystal...I'm gonna go with Crystal. The album version is a great piece of music!

ooh. regret. followed by paradise.

Age of Consent, no doubt about it.

AOC - Nothing else come close as an opener

I'm gonna go w/ the infamous Love Vigilantes. When PCL came out, it shattered all preconcieved notions that New Order were a pale shadow of Joy Division. And when Low Life opens with a melodica folkish song with storyteller-esque lyrics, it really made you wonder "what's gonna come next? "

I'm AOC all the way thru, but I have to say Crystal is a very strong second, somewhat surprisingly (as an "old skool" New Order fan) !

Its got to be Age of Consent the first New Order album I ever bought what a treat for a first track to listen to.

I went with Crystal ...latest craze and one hell of an opening track!

regret is where its at. i don't like the opener for low-life though. guh.

I have to say Dreams Never End, for a few reasons. One being that it was a powerful song, but not the most powerful song on the album. It also shows how New Order was planning trying it's own style while sticking to Joy Division's style as well. And last but not least, it's kind of cheerful in a sense, a reminder that even after Ian's death, the band will still go on.

For me, Paridise and Love Vigilantes, both have always been great openers

Disorder, Age of Consent, Love Vigilantes, Paradise and Regret are loved equally.

In doubt between Dreams Never End and Regret.This time I´ll go with Dreams Never End!

Difficult to decide between AOC and Paradise. AOC won the toss up.

AOC is a kick ass opener but Crystal is un-real.

I like Fine Time (the intro to the Silk mix is very effective on my car stereo.)

It happens to be my least favourite track on Technique but that's more to do with the quality of the whole album.

"Age of Consent" just pretty much blew people away back in 1983 when they first heard Power corrup+ lies, and it has the elements of New Order post-Joy Division/Martin Hannent...

runner up... "Regret", its not only a great song, it made the rest of Republic seem very disappointing for the most part.

i like all of them, even "Fine Time" (it never sounded all that much like a real house song to began with, but sounds very new orderly, and has weathered well over time, plus it has New orders sense of humour too!, which disappeared in the 90s)

most will disagree, but I, initially and still, find "Crystal" too long and bloated. a shorter concise version would have had more impact, and then they could have stretched out a longer version on the 12" like back in the 80s.
