Does your NO listening habits annoy your signifcant other? — Forum Archive

Last night, I'm sitting in front of my computer and listening to my usual mix of NO songs. My wife walks by and asks me how can I possibly listen to the same thing all the time and tells me that it's starting to get on her nerves. I simply tell her that i love the band and i love listening to them. Then she tell me it's not healthy for a 27 year old to be that obsessive about something and I may be mentally ill because of my New Order listening habits. She even went so far and compared me to the little teeny bopper girl obsessed with 'N sync! After that comment it kinda erupted into a little arguement. Oh well.

Do you all ever run into a similiar situation? AHH!

Yes!

Had girlfriend in the car DARE and i mean DARE to utter the words "why are you listening to this crap" while i was giving Technique a blast while out in the car with her.

Needless to say the relationship didnt last :lol:

Oh, if only I had a significant other to annoy with NO! :cry:

I am interested in this girl in my Government class, but so far have been unable to get a chance to talk to her. I almost cried when she didn't come to class today.....:D

I ain't married, and the young lady of my affections don't mind NO, so all is cool here. The guys in work though, that's another story. They're really beginning to regret the day I got a subwoofer on my work PC. I got a certain part of the Alan Wise intro from Retro Disc 4 (you know the bit I mean) as my start-up sound. Heh heh heh.

Yes of course...

It's hard to believe for some people that I can actually like listening to the same music over and over.

Get Ready stayed for 6 months in the car CD player, but I admit, I don't listen to NO with the bird is in the car for a short trip, to avoid getting on her nerves with it...

Is it sane? Well, if you don't really like what's playing at the radio, what's your option?

I must admit that when I was still living with my parents, my dad was able to recognize Bizarre Love Triangle, so maybe I played it too much :D

But I admit, I vary a little, I have 10 Gb of mixed mp3 on my computer and it plays at random, so I'm not listening to NO all the time, but I admit that it might be 25% of those mp3 ;)

Its not so much what I listen to as the sheer physical space all the cds take up that is the problem.

she likes JD/NO but gets irritated when I play low fi live tapes in the car. Yet, I'm the audiophile, she thinks I'm crazy to go to as much trouble and expense as I do for good sound.

hehe.. Well I do love her!

She's did lighten up a lot since I first met her 4 years ago. She's a classical musician. Her general attitude toward any music that isn't classical was just crap, ecept for U2 (she loves u2). But she surprises me sometimes. One time she went with me to go see the cure. I was convinced that she would have a miserble time and I couldn't understand why she wanted to go besides spending time with me. As soon as the Cure came on, she was dancing along with In Between Day and actually singing along to Just like Heaven! And she NEVER showed any interest in the band before! Same thing happen when we were in London at finsbury. I guess I played NO so much that she knew the lyrics to almost all the songs!

My girlfriend thinks I am kind of nuts because of my NO listening habits. Then again, she added fuel to the fire when one of her christmas presents to me was a box full of JD/NO t-shirts.

Luckily enough, I've always managed to get the ex's to like the Order, maybe it's cos they want some peace, obsessive is not the word, and when I've had a bevvy or two, I become unsufferable, kinda like the same way when I'm watching The Life Of Brian with a bird, I have to mimic every line with the pythons, which usually leaves me being told to "Shut the fuck up, I'm trying to watch it" :lol: if my current flatmates (who happen to be my wee cousins) could get on here, they'd tell you just how bad I am when it comes to the Order.

My ex-girlfriend told me one day she thought that NO were very 80's for her...my NO listening habits were insane for her. She only liked a few songs (True Faith and Blue monday, i think), and hated the others (specially TBTHOG, one of my faves).

NO are boring for her, she prefers the last Robbie Williams single, Feel...

Now she's not my girlfriend...

I think I can compute with certaintly that no woman 18-25 in Western or Central New York has ever heard of New Order.

my last boyfriend loves new order almost as much as i do (although he loves the pixies just a wee bit more). in fact, the first time we met, through a mutual friend, we spent about 2 hours talking about NO/JD and that's how we got to know each other! at his house we would watch the neworderstory, then listen to loads of NO and JD while playing nintendo. i even accompanied him to his very first NO concert! we broke up about a year ago, but we're still good friends even though he's in scotland and i'm here, and the last time we talked on the phone we spent ages talking about the special features on the 24HPP DVD.

so the answer would be no then. i hit the jackpot with that one! :D

and shug, i understand your 'life of brian' issues--i'm the same way with 'the holy grail.'

A good question would be, why this obession?

Seriously, there isn't many other groups that I can actually listen to the same music everytime without getting bored.

Problem with New Order is, they all grow on you, so unless you listen to it a lot, you might miss it :D

Well, doing this site sure help, otherwise I might listen to NO a little less, just in rotation, but doing all this discussion and games about the music make me do a little more listening.. like trying to find which song to eliminate next, and etc ;)

But when I tell people I actually do a website on the group, they all seem to think I have a lot of time to waste.. well, it's a hobby and a very good learning school, and I can tell you, it's by far the most popular site I've ever done :D

Well my wonderful girlfriend loves New Order, not as much as myself but still will sing along or get into the music at a club or if i'm listing to their records at home. She even liked Joy Division until she watched 24hour people. I dodged telling her what it stood for and when she found out she left the room and did not speak to me for a bit. Everything is cool now but the JD sticker has been removed from my car.

aye, mine likes true faith (but asks why i have so many versions of it) & a couple of the electronic songs, but always complains when i put them on. she always puts alannis bleedin morisette on. go figure.

The only thing I get grief for is hoarding a multitude of memorabilia. And for the amount of money I've splashed on said memorabilia.

Don't really play a lot of New Order around the house and I've got a lot worse habits for the Mrs to cope with first. ;)

Having said that, Paula's done a fair few gigs and describes her favourite songs as 'the country one from Liverpool' (Love Vigilantes) and 'the dancey one that I used to like but don't like anymore' (any one from Touched, Toothache or BLT). She's not really 'up' on song titles herself.

Mind, we did have the Vikings and Ceremony played at our wedding so she's a genuine star.

Similar here. Hubby doesn't mind NO at all, but has had the nerve to complain (once only) about the amount of money I spend. In fact, compared to some of you, I probably don't spend that much at all. Anyway, he should count himself lucky it's not his money I spend on it.

All the stick I ever get is about the seemingly endless stream of Fall CDs that keeps arriving. Having got them all on vinyl, I'm slowly but surely building up the CD collection. Some are more expensive than others ! Karen was never keen on The Fall, but now detests them ;)
