Fuck me.What a gig!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm absolutlely shattered.Just got in after a 2 hour drive and my head's buzzin. Brixton Academy is a fantastic venue and should be the spiritual home of N.O. Great sound,great atmosphere. Everyone who's going thurs and fri it will love it. The boys were very relaxed and in good spirits.Hooky,well he runs all over the fuckin stage like a man possessed.Who needs visuals??!!!Barney kept going on about his new trainers he brought in Glasgow. Amazing set.They played Ceremony.Nearly brought a tear to the eye.The Get Ready tracks were ROCKIN"!! And Bobby Gillespee came on for Rock The Shack,which was FUCKING BRILLIANT.BEST SONG OF THE NIGHT!!!!!!!! Even the support were ok.Band called "Gabrielles Wish".Aurther Baker was superb. Well that's it .I'm off to bed. Got bloody work tomorrow. Amazing gig ,amazing band.Wow. ;)

Arthur Baker was great, but after some time, we couldn't wait... anymore :skeptic:

The first support groupie.... was mediocrecy at least The crowd went crazy and :jump: mostly during "Love will tear us apart" , "Blue Monday" and "Transmission"...

They left the stage without even a "goodnight" (I think) :confused:

I got a t-shirt (15 pounds) and a Gig Poster (1 pound) :cool:

There were also some fake t-shirts and blouses... outside, but... :nono:

And too much Weed inside... :\ohwell: frustrating...

Hook was the best, always running here and there, teasing, joking, etc.... :clap:

Last night was absolutely brilliant, New order were in top form and the set was a really good mix of old and new stuff. Arthur Baker was wicked......the house'd up version of good vibrations was excellent....as was all his set.....and gabrielles wish ( i think thats what they were called ) were good as well, even if they sounded just like joy division...the singer even had flayling arms, just like Ian curtis! But why do they only make T-shirts in 2 sizes......xl ( which really were huge, they could double as a tent) and skinny ( which would be tight on a small child )......nevertheless an excellent night.

Awesome!

Hearing the legendary Arthur Baker mix up drum&bass was a treat in itself to begin with, New Order were typically effortless, but did anyone notice how they raced through the tracks and that many of their songs seemed short? Not complaining too much cause it made for a longer setlist :) Barney was a little less animated that he can sometimes be (nice side parting by the way haha!!) but Hooky more than made up for it zooming from one side of the stage to the other :)

Highlights for me where: your silent face ceremony tbthog temptation lwtua

although highlights is probably a poor word to use cause the whole gig was fucking immense!!!!!!!!

ps: why nothing off Technique ??????? :(

Best venue of the tour thus far - seemed to be a sauna wherever you stood. Mind you, I was never more than 30ft from the stage. But the same set again. Still, you can't argue with the opening 4, however it all does seem to go a little downhill from there. Not convinced that 60mph and Close Range have as much 'oomph' about 'em as the band seem to think - why Barney keeps telling us they're gonna take it 'more upbeat' for CR is still beyond me. And Touched, BLT and True Faith are all too lightweight in comparison to their original incantations and appear to be projectd more at the passer-by jigging around at the back of the circle, than the hardcore down the front. Temptation is always a Godsend though. Soooperb song. Rock The Shack got its best reception last night, and still had one decent bum start to make us all chuckle. Is Bobby G another short-arse though? Hardly stood more than an inch above Barney and Hooky. And has anyone noticed the lyric change they've done every time live? Something about 'trees'? Confuses me every time. Anyhow, me knees are fuct today but have to go and do it all again tonight. It's a hard life.

what a gig! Your Silent Face was gorgeous. Temptation was just incredible. maybe the best version I've ever heard them play. Touched by the Hand of God was a pointless mess though. Shame nothing off Technique...next time Dream Attack or Vanishing Point please?!! Transmission was very faithful and powerful.

Couldn't believe the men's toilets being closed in the auditorium! having to push your way back through several thousand people isn't much fun....

I guess it will be festivals next year.

Not much to add here other than to join the consensus: truly a fantastic gig, pissed from a great height on the Apollo show I attended last week. The venue is great, the sound superb, the band joyous and the crowd absolutely belting. So good, in fact, that I'm going to stop slagging London and its inhabitants for, ooohhhh, about 24 hours.

All this made up for the convoluted 4-and-a-half-hour train ride home, followed by 10-mile walk from Crewe station. The things we do for Rock 'n' Roll, eh!

Tired, simple but happy.

There's a glowing review of the gig on C4 teletext page 454 - it says the Academy holds 4500. Arthur Baker's CD is also reviewed on the same page: he was great last night, even had me dancing, and I NEVER dance. Is this CD good, and does it have his take on "Good Vibrations" on it?

Any complaints of last nights gig at Brixton will fall on my deaf ears.Having only seen them once before ,mainly under a pile of bodies at Reading 1993,last night was perfect.I will probably never see them play again live in the flesh ,so for trite criticicms to come into play has really pissed me off. Anyway,here's the review courtesy of C4 teletext:

   NEW ORDER @ BRIXTON ACADEMY 10/10/01

It's hard to maintain any critical faculties when 4500 people have recreated a perfect Hacienda night in Brixton.Especially when New Order are playing a perfect True Faith.Even in a set where Your Silent Face and 2 Get Ready tracks were the sole non-singles,there were plenty of classics.Anything on Technique for instance-that weren't aired.It was only after you noticed.During it,the elation meant whatever song was being played felt like their best ever. Playing to a crowd only old enough to have seen them on the few 1998 dates if they were lucky,their apparently shambolic old live reputation vanished.Here,with Bernard Sumner dancing like a retired astronaut,the show was nothing about looking dignified and all to do with energy.As Hooky brandished his bass in the air during 60MPH,not playing a note,New Order look immortal. Whatever their future,nothing could have torn them apart tonight. 9/10
