It's only Britain that is affected isn't it ? We are usually an hour behind the rest of Europe. Anyway, time measurement comes from the standard first adopted at Greenwich, London, England.
Surely this adjustment has happened before. I don't know as I have only been on this site for the last four months.

I can't. I love GMT, always have, always will!
The summer season GMT shift occurred firstly to help farmers extract maximum daylight saving during WWI and WWII.
Making hay while the sun shines is one thing, but times have changed, and now the agro altering video recorders and microwave clocks twice a year surely makes the whole gig redundant. Haven't farmers got digital clocks nowadays anyway? - surely so. Do they really want to be wasting time adjusting clocks when they could be driving around in massive tractors cultivating sos-mix and other vegetable bangers.

So here is another question that has always puzzled me. Why are the clocks put back at the end of October which is TWO months before the shortest day of the year but go forward at the end of March which is THREE months after the shortest day? Nobody has ever given me a sensible answer to this one so you lot out there are my very last hope.
As mentioned, the changes in GMT apply to the farming industry (primarily) - their season draws to a close in October, their harvests are reaped. As such, the clocks are altered then - in other words, the clocks have performed their task and can now resume normal responsibility.
The fact that everyone's tired for two days before and after is not considered (farmers, incidentally, get up as the crow flies and usually hit the sack well past midnight eating only soup and thick bread).

The logic still escapes me. Why can't the farmers get up an hour earlier? There is still the same amount of daylight in one day whether its 5 o'clock or 6 o'clock. I'm too tired to concentrate. Didn't get enough sleep the other night. Just a minute.....
I'm fooled.. we're changing time next sunday.. it's usually the first sunday of APRIL here.. and then back on the last sunday of October.
So it WILL change.. but next week! sorry, this goes with the server!!

It was changed during WWII, they never dropped the rule afterwards.

This is because between the longest and shortest days of every year (Solstices), there is always a point in late March and October where daylight and night hours are equal, ie. Equinoxes. This is when the sun rises and sets closest to true east and west respectively.
The changes to the clock near the date of Equinoxes is just a way of compensating for the difference between 'actual' time and sunrise and set times.

OK, good point, but between solstices the daylight hours aren't evenly spread over the day - the sun rises or sets earlier. In other words, noon isn't 'true' noon, coz it's not halfway between sunset and rise. The clock thing is just a way of bringing noon and the half-point of the day to mean nearly the same thing. BTW, the vernal equinox is in March only to you strange northern hemisphere types.
By the way, that New Order aren't bad, are they?
