Best LWTUA cover

I am aware that there are more recorded and released versions. Thought I'd limit it down to 5.

I've not heard any of these, so my vote goes to "new order" for their great cover version on jools holland.

squarepusher's version is outstanding and the Bis version has been rockin my decks constantly...both of these electro acoustic takes are worth the price of the plastic they occupy.

Paul Young's version still cracks me up.....what a fool.

I think the Cure did a good cover of this, and since in the archives, I'm surprised this wasn't listed. I know I'm going to get bashed for this, but I do like the Cure's cover of this song, and it's not because I like them as a band. In fact, although I like the Smashing Pumpkins a lot, I hate their cover of the cure's "A night like this." No keyboards? Not even the saxophone? And James Iha, who sings on this one, sounds tired as he sings. However, the Cure's take on LWTUA sounds fairly close to the original, in my opinion, although the keyboards are too prominant.

The king isn't bad but my vote goes for - don't beat me - hmmmm Paul Young. He (or his producer) tried a completely different approach to that song and he really made it his song. All the other versions just suck. As much as I like Barneys voice, I really love it but he can't sing Joy Division songs, he simply can't do it. It often annoys me as if he's making fun of Ian. And Paul Youngs version really taught me something about the way Curtis' sang. Although his voice is dramatical and very emotional, in a way he just talks to himself, his voice isn't expressive in any way. The most funny cover of LWTA is a german cover of the Paul Young cover. Incredible. The title translated back would be "Love is a vicious cycle". Uhhhh.... Dirk

Swans, mostly cause I'm a fan of theirs, though the Bis one is a close second.

the swans one is probably my favourite at the moment, although the cure's version was alright.

I actually really like the version by Moonspell. Love Will Tear Us Apart is heavy metal material baby!!

Eläkeläiset is a Finnish cover band, which covers songs with insane "jenkka" or "humppa" style (there actually isn't a word in English vocabulary for this, which is propably a good thing. This style of music should be listened extremely drunk and singing the lyrics as loud as you can (even if you don't have a clue about the lyrics). They don't actually speak English that bad, they are just fooling the audience or something. Most of their songs have a lot faster tempo. Proceed with caution.

Have to go with Bis on this one. Excellent version. To be honest, of the others, the only one I've heard (or can recall) is Paul Young and, err..... well......

The Bis version is outstanding... pure genius. The logical progression of Martin Hannett's cool, detached production and Ian's lyrics of isolation and decay. Stunningly good.

I've read that 10,000 Maniacs recorded a cover of LWTUA...I've never heard it, but if they did, I'm certain it sucks far beyond any other in history.
