Some questions on the RCA unreleased Joy Division album that couldn't be answered from the discography section on NOOL. Is there someone willing to answer them if possible? From what I understood there are different vinyl versions around. 1- is there an "official" version of this album? 2- if so, how can one recognize that one? 3- my version consists of a yellow vinyl LP and blue vinyl 7". The LP has "RZM 200 A" scratched in the vinyl near the label. The black cover has the big electronic signal wiggles on the front; no text. On the side there is the text "warsaw". On the back of the cover it has "warsaw" on top. The left column on the back lists the songs from the A side of LP:

  • all of this for you
  • leaders of men
  • they walked in line
  • failures
  • novelty
  • no love lost The right column on the back lists the songs from the B side of LP:
  • transmission
  • living in the ice age
  • interzone
  • warsaw
  • shadowplay The labels on the LP have "J.D." and "WARSAW" as text; also "RZM productions LTD." The 7" lists:
  • excite one
  • insight
  • she's lost control
  • transmission

Answering to your questions...

  1. No, but there's a "semi-bootleg" CD named "Warsaw" released by Movieplay which cointains 11 tracks from the unreleased 1978 RCA album, plus 5 tracks from the demo recorded by Warsaw in July 1977, plus the track "As You Said". You can easily find this CD (even at big stores like Amazon).

  2. See # 1

  3. You can have more info on your bootlegs at Joy Division Central, more precisely here and here.

The 7" seems to be the first Peel session. AFAIK, there is no official release aside from the stuff on Heart & Soul

Great! That was what I was looking for. It is a bootleg and even a re-press or copy of it. Mine is yellow and original press seems to be black. The label on my LP does not have the "RZM 200 A/B" printed on it. For the rest it is the same. The 7" is the same as shown in your second link. The web page lists first song as "Exercise One" while the label says "Excite One"; you can't hear anyway because the sound quality is not too good. Thanks again; great help.
