EGG/Truth live videos from A Factory Complication - where from ?

I'm trying to compile my own alternative Retro CD, featuring non-single/non-album stuff from Western Works demos onwards, including the live tracks from the various Factory video compilations.

Johnson's Ideal for Living book mentions A Factory Complication video released in November 1981 (Factory Benelux only) which featured Everything's Gone Green and Truth done live at L'Ancienne Belgique, Brussels on 15th May 1981.

Has anyone got these audio lovelies (I'm not too fusserd about the videos, although that would be cool too :) ) ?

As far as I am aware, the full gig of this L'Ancienne show never surfaced. A pity, because this was a good tour.

I have this vinyl bootleg, "Video Soundtrack part 1", which contains:

Everything's Gone Green (AB, Brussels 15/05/81) Truth (AB, Brussels 15/05/81) from The Factory Complication video Ceremony (Comanche Student Union, Manchester 06/02/81) In A Lonely Place (Imperial Cinema, Birmingham, 23/01/82) from A Factory Video Temptation (BBC 2 'Riverside', 04/01/82) Chosen Time (BBC 2 'Riverside', 04/01/82) Age Of Consent (Channel 4 'Switch', 01/04/83) Blue Monday (Channel 4 'Switch', 01/04/83)

I already converted this to CD-R. Either we could set up a snail mail trade, or I could encode the album to shn and post it to alt.binaires.music.shn (in lossless format, that is). Just let me know what you prefer.

The alt.binaries.music.shn thing is a good idea, but is there any chance of a total beginner's guide to how this thing works - I have to confess to being completely clueless

Here's a short beginner's guide which I already posted last week, in the 'now posting in alt.binaries.music.shn' thread. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Well, as indicated in the header, I'm posting the files to alt.binaries.music.shn. This is one of countless newsgroups from which you can download binary files (there is also an entire hierarchy of alt.binaries.music.mp3 newsgroups, for instance).

The best program for checking out, and downloading, the contents of such binary newsgroups is XNews, which is freeware and can be downloaded from http://xnews.newsguy.com.

You can have access to the binary newsgroups via your internet provider, or through a specialized newsserver. If your internet provider carries binary newsgroups, the odds are that retention of the binary files is limited to 1 to 2 days, at the most, and with a low degree of completion (that is, the number of binary files that makes it completely to the server). Specialized newsservers (such as Giganews or Easynews) offer longer retention (varying between 7 and 16 days, depending on the daily volume of postings) and up to 95% completion - but you have to pay for them. There are also a number of free news servers (can easily be found via Google or similar robots), but my experience is that they offer very slow download speeds, which isn't very handy when it comes to shn-files.

If you are not familiar with commercial news servers, you may want to try out Easynews, for example. They offer a completely free trial account for 3 days or 1 GB of downloads (whichever comes first) with no further strings attached. The files in alt.binaries.music.shn are available for 7 days, and their download speed is excellent (45 kbps via my cable modem). Please note: this is not intended as an advertisement for Easynews, Giganews or any other commercial news server. I'm only informing you from my own experience.

Yeah, it's pretty good. While I don't agree with all of the authors' personal opinions, they appear to have done some pretty good research. As a matter of fact, I have the impression that they actually went ahead and interviewed Deborah Curtis, 10 years before she told her story on her own. It's not just the wedding photos which make me think so, but also the bits of information about Ian's health & suicide attempts which lie scattered across the text, and which seem to correspond closely with what's written in 'Touching From A Distance' (but this is going from memory, as I haven't reread the latter in recent times). Anyway, I'm glad you liked the book!!
