Just been listening to a programme on Radio 5 which had a feature called Rock N Roll Footballer.

The erstwhile wing wizard mentioned Ceremony as one of his favourite songs and that after he signed for Chelsea he asked to play only one half of a pre-season friendly at Brentford so he could go and watch New Order later that evening - quality!

I've got an old NME from the 80's with an interview with Nevin where he discusses his love of their music, and how he felt different compared to his team mates crap tastes.

In the photo accompaning the article he looks the proverbial Joy Division fan circe 79 with the dark overcoat and Joy Division metal badge.

Sorry for my stupid question(not aware of english football),is he a football player or a coach ?

He's a former Scotland international footballer (not one of the two Scots who have scored against Brazil in World Cups - Davie Narey and John Collins) who played for a few years in England with Chelsea and Tranmere Rovers (and probably some others). Tricky winger, big JD fan, long coat-wearer archetypal indie kid. Fair play to him, always a joy to watch him play. Has recently been Chief Executive at Motherwell (may still be) since retiring from playing.

Thanx again, Benny.

He also played for the mighty Blues - I always thought he was a cut above the usual Kylie loving footballer

Click HERE for the Soccerbase run down on him. He sometimes does commentary on Radio 5 as well.

Indeed. And integrated well by Half Man Half Biscuit into a song chronicling bands' attitude over where in the running order they should play.....[to the 70s terrace-chant 'you're going home in a f*kin ambulance'] ...'you're going on after Crispy Ambulance'.

You found your password then ;) or just applied for a new one.

Was once stood behind the last-of-the-tanner-ball-players in a cash point queue, in the middle of Chester. During his days as an Evertonian. TINY fcuker!.

Pat Nevin, the only bright spot at the Bridge in the mid-80's, and by crikey, those were some lean years. Probably in the top 10 of Chelsea fan's favorite players if you were to do a poll. Gianfranco would be #1. Kerry would be in there too.

Incidentally the Durutti Column track "Shirt No.7" was written for Pat Nevin - apparently he was a mate of Vini Reilly.

P.S Crispy Ambulance were a top band - anyone who thinks otherwise should listen to "The Presence" arguably Martin Hannett's greatest production.
