Would be interested to hear any info. on the history of the post-Factory record companies Tony and Rob set-up. Were they successful? - F2 ran for only a few years did it not?, Rob's R's was a dance label?

I seem to remember that it was called Factory Too and was a subsiduary of London Records. Can't really recall who they had on their rosta but I think it was a mixture of new signings and a few Factory old timers who were stuck for a record deal. It never really came to much and folded after a couple of years. Apparently Wilson hated working for London.

that's no surprise.

Having just watched 24pp it would be nice to see another record label revolution. Needless to say (personally) I cannot recall the last time I became excited about the release of a particular new record.

Can anyone?

I get excited when Paul Weller, PSB, Oasis, and NO release new records. I'll be bouncing off the walls if Kate Bush ever releases a new record.

Yes, as would I; being a KB connoisseur for some 20 years.

But she hasn't released anything since The Red Shoes, co-incidentally the year NO published their final Factory outing.

Pauline Welk has fallen short since Standley's Rope and Oasis are seemingly incapable of capturing the crunch of Definitely Maple and Morning Gundog.

Rob's Records had Sub Sub, and 'Ain't No Use' was released through them, I think, so they might've had a modicum of success, though obviously nothing compared to the Doves!

They also had ACR, when ACR were going downhill - again - somewhat. Not sure they'd have brought them much success.

I'm interested to learn how two supreme figures of the Manc. music scene did not bring to the fore the then current Manc. music scene on the back of Factory's legend.

In the deleted scenes section (24HRPP) Shaun and Bez visit some clothes dood selling the shit 80's gear of the time, he seemed to be an integral part of the scene - is he still kicking around?

Nah, they got them after that period. Think they did 'Up in Downsville' and 'Change the Station' with them, neither of which are particularly strong albums.

Can't remember the name of the geezer from Afflecks Palace. Doesn't it say his name somewhere on the DVD? He was the Mondays original manager before McGough wasn't he? I forget now. . .

factory too released a factory sample too on 12" with very similar sleeve to the original fac2 release.

saw it on e-bay a little while ago.

Q mentioned that K Bunter takes forever to record anything (sound familiar?) and although she has almost recorded a new album she may spend 3 years (from now) making sure its top notch. Exciting times for both of us Bushfield fans.

I didn't realise the clobber guy was the Monday's original manager. How come Nathan got the nod? - was his jeans too flared?

It's a shame T W's Fac Too isn't still around. I read that Vinegar Ribly sacked Wilson for lack of promotion on his last album (about 4/5 years ago). V Ribber's song (Opus for Vegetables) appeared on a Thomas Cruise film recently. There's still a chance for the crazy cat.

But if you ask the kids who Durutti Column are what would they say? - they would say, does he rap for System of A Down and then the heart would sink (although I'm quite keen on Systems with a Drain).

Most likely. 21" was the considered max by those ITK on items de rigeur. Any increase on that [& over 21 years in age on the part of the owner] would leave you open to being pilloried in the streets by small children.

The Mondays couldn't & wouldn't suffer that.

And there is "Factory Records", which has a website (see the links section), as the name Factory was under was Factory Communications...

ACR had their biggest ever hit on A&M records, which is something a lot of people overlook. Norman Cook and Bernard remixed "Won't Stop Loving You" (originally entitled "The Big E" and from the album "Good Together" - which, title track apart, was little more than MOR sub-Level 42 blandness sadly.) It made 55 in the chart - which was doubly surprising cos it even got some respectable airplay. But then, in the wake of Madchester, all sorts of Factory refugees were starting to have minor chart hits - another band who clocked up a few were the Railway Children - via Virgin Records - once again with a re-issued/remixed single - "Every Beat Of The Heart". Not forgetting, of course, James - who went on to become Manchester's new wholemeal and organic version of Simple Minds of course.

When A&M dropped ACR they sought refuge on Robsrecords - who released "Up In Downsville" and the single "27 4-ever". But they've been floundering a bit ever since sadly.....

You're being a bit hard, aren't you? Illumination is one of my all time fave Weller solo albums.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of Oasis as long as Noel keeps writing. HC was cool because the rest of the band also wrote songs for it.

I have a copy of the Feb '02 Mojo with Kate on the cover, but I haven't read it yet because it's at my mom's. Had to order the stupid thing because Mojo only puts "popular" stuff on the covers for US sale. Like Carlos Santana would fly off the shelf. ANYWAY...I'll keep hoping for something new from her and MAYBE it'll come before I die one day. I just LOVE her stuff.

change the station was dreadful however i thought up in downsville wasnt bad...they did a mini tour to promote this album and were giving away loads of freebies at the gigs..( a nice t-shirt which i have now lost ).. i saw them at cambridge and the wonderfully named leicester mosquito coast club!!!

The Durutti Column aren't bad, and they released some stuff on Factory Too - okay, so they were only reissues...

But, yeah, the rest of the stuff was complete and utter shite!
