Let us ban the suggestion of banning the banning of Regrettable Circumstances.
Call it Autosuggestion, if you prefer.
I was doing this in the first 2 days, I can do it again just to have some fun in the Survivor game. :p
We all know "Regret" is the best "Republic" song anyway.
The most popular song deserves to win, if that is Regret then so be it...
personally i think Special knocks them all for 6 but you all know that anyway ;)

By the way, H, is the real explanation for your enthusiasm about Donnie Darko the presence of a large chunk of LWTUA?
Much as I agree with the sentiment, we can't have Don thinking he's achieved something if Special came home tops instead.

My enthusiasm was for the originality of the film, specifically its intriguing concepts, and the fact it kept me interested. LWTUA? - where was this?
The fact that it was set in 1988 escaped me, possibly because I'm currently in 1988 now so I wouldn't have noticed much difference - except that 1987 had better song releases - but I still don't know whether 1988 has more to offer as its only Spring.

LWTUA was played in the party scene, near the end.
There was a great deal of discussion of the 1988 U.S. presidential election, coming in early November, while the film's events were in October.
It was only the comparison to Memento that raised my expectations. DD was an acceptable film, but far below Memento.
You'll recall my recent comment about virtually all movies being deeply flawed, so I certainly don't blame you for having trouble finding great ones to recommend.
I suspect it was set in 1988 probably because the writer was in high school in 1988.
Think I've only ever recommended Brian and Donny Tipso; both of which were, to my mind, worth recommending - in amongst the catalogue of averageness we have to deal with. I expect better comments on S Brian, otherwise I may boil more sos-mix than I should, the next time I intend to enjoy vegetable bangers.
If you can imagine yourself in my own shoe horns, and that I am often found chastising recommending friends who become confused amongst the excitement of the cinema experience.
Unfortunately I fall short (for now) in my ability to fathom the world, whereas your abilities are quite surmountable.
I can only salute, and tip my fruit basket in your general direction; in anticipation of your next character assessments.
I can, however, confidently reassure anybody with the misconception that 'Mr. Deeds' is actually worth viewing.

In case you were wondering which of your remarks were the most acute.
Patrick, it's the kind of movie you like or not.. my girlfriend loved the movie so much she bought it, but personally, I didn't dislike it, but I did not quite get it until a few days later, and again, I feel I should watch it again with the director's comments to get it.
Memento, I'm not even sure who was the bad guy or not, but I didn't get the chance to see it in the forward order on the DVD, that might have helped :D But it's a nice concept to actually feel like the guy while seeing the movie, you see it the way he saw it at each step, since knowning what will happen after has no impact.
There is a few movies like that, have you seen Mulholland Drive? that one, I didn't get AT ALL.. until I read the user comments on the Internet Movie Database.....
I like to think in a movie, but some movies look like you need a 220 IQ to get it the first time :D

One comment I will make is about all the familiar faces. Even the actor who played the wrong Private Ryan was the star of a recent ill-fated (but very good) TV show.
Correct Nicky Spots - I agree, the main reason P couldn't enjoy it was because of his IQ. It's possibly too high, which is why he cannot appreciate Regret.

You would probably enjoy ill-fated TV shows as they cannot pretend to be anything but; right?

Obviously my spelling sometimes is less than 100%.
I believe H has also commented favorably on Mulholland Rodeo, Nicolas. One reason I liked Memento was that even though it might not be totally clear what was going on, you had confidence that the people who made the move did know, and that it was not just bogus mystification like the X-Files.

I'm in! I'll vote it out each and every time. Once you've heard Regret "live" then the studio version is just bland. I'll wait for Liar to go first, 'though.
