I found this in an issue of NME from next year:

Reuters (Manchester) - A small crowd gathered today in Manchester to celebrate the opening of Factory 2, a new record label and artistic collective headed by legendary broadcaster Tony Wilson."I swore I'd never get into this business again," Wilson told reporters. All that changed, however, when Wilson, digging for food in a dustbin, came across a discarded recording of band Benny and the Cobwebs featuring London-based singer/songwriter Kevin Hewick. "Their passion for the music is what brought me back."Factory 2's debut release, "Benny, Kevin, the Other Two Cobwebs and You," will be released late next year when Factory 2 art director Peter Saville finally settles on a color for the stripe across the cover photo.

Interesting that you're in touch with Eleanor. I think a fair few of us here probably picked up '20 Years Too Late' but personally I couldn't relate to it whatsoever. Bit too airy-fairy for my tastes. Shame, cos I've swapped a few mails with Eleanor myself but I think we're both looking at the band and their music from totally alien angles.

Footnote to all this was that after a couple of weeks of correspondence Kevin changed his mind, and didn't become our singer for Community.

The reason Kevin went cold on the project. In Detweiler's words.

"Kevin would have you believe that he began to get unsolicited e-mails to his private account. Far from it, Kevin entered into a correspondence with me, using that account to send mails to me. The "disturbing" bit would appear to be a complete misunderstanding - at the time my nickname on here was Fred West, as jokingly given to me by ATR. Coupled with the posting status at the time of "weirdo", Kevin seems to have thought that I was a serial killer worshipper or something, and immediately bailed out. "

I remember buying 'From Brussels With Love' when it was first released. I still have the vinyl copy.

I loved 'Haystack' then and I still do. I was so excited that 'New Order' had released a track at last, and wondered if Mr. Hewick was the new singer! (Okay, I was young and stoopid...)

I still think that the track would be an excellent subject for one of the new fangled 'dance gurus' to get their hands on - forget the detractors - it was an important point in musical history from any right-thinking person's point of view.

Just wish I could have sat quietly in the corner during the recordings, if only to observe and enjoy...
