We all go through bad times and as you get older you seem to HANDLE adversity and bad news MORE easily unless you are ME!:DBut whenever i get really down i put on the ORDER and things don't seem as bad.Different songs can evoke different moods in NOOL'S.What do YOU listen to in a time of crisis?
I love THIEVES LIKE US (instrumental) for SADNESS.
TRUE FAITH when a lover leaves.
REGRET..when i have no money to go out!
VANISHING POINT ...when i am getting BETTER!(
)
SUBCULTURE when i remember the LIFESTYLE i lead...should have listened to my mother.
CEREMONY now cos a friend has just died.
Someone here recommended DREAM ATTACK once but for me
LOVE WIL TEAR US APART by JOY DIVISION and the ace NOVELTY
also are brilliant at putting things into perspective.
This is a bit like OUR TUNE from RADIO 1 i know but enter into the spirit of this and help your fellow NOOL's when ALL is lost.
Cheers Rocket Mick

i feel the exact same way as you, LWTUA. it's my favorite song of all-time, and the great thing about it is that it can make me feel absolutely anything and everything, sometimes all at once. it's pure magic.
When I'm fucked aff, Technique usually does the trick, the strings on All The Way and the calmness of Loveless usually wake my better senses up
When I'm in a great mood it's usually a best of tape with classics such as Ceremony, Temptation, Crystal, Here To Stay....the kinda stuff you wanna hear before going on a 3 day drinking sesh:D
I don't listen to New Order when i'm feeling down. I find that Minority by Green Day always cheers me up ![]()
Ceremony is the song I like to listen to when I'm feeling a bit down. Just the first 30 seconds of the song makes me feel better. When the guitars come in for the first time is my favorite moment, they sound optimistic to me. Then barney start singing, my mood usually better by that moment so I can start enjoying the rest of the song, and start anticipating the moment barney say "avenues all lined with tree". then the song is over. I'm back in reality, I remember what's bugging me, I get upset again, then I just replay ceremony again.
not necessarily crises (when i tend to put on mozart's requiem), but:
BLT, TPK and here to stay always make me smile and want to get up and dance. which is difficult when i'm driving in the car, but there you go. paradise and close range are great driving songs, as well.
let's go (lyrics or otherwise) and the regret fire island mix get me into a groove that helps me segue into '70s funk music quite easily, which i listen to in the evenings quite often.
all day long, YSF and every little counts are great for laying around on my bed, reading magazines.
atmosphere, elegia, heart and soul and LWTUA are good pre-bedtime songs.

Indeed, best remedy for crisis known to man. So soothing and full of hope.
I like to play In A Lonely Place and Angel Dust loudly enough to rattle the walls at the end of tough work days.
I find myself singing or playing As It Is When It Was at times when I'm feeling pretty good and the sun is shining.
YSF always puts me in a reflective mood, both in terms of the music, and for the story, told here before, of how I went to see NO in Oakland 85 and happened upon a friend who I hadn't seen for quite awhile, and who passed away tragically early the next year. Everything's Gone Green also has a similar memory, driving into the bay area in the early a.m. just before dawn, and the local college d.j. announcing the NO show that day, and then proceeds to play EGG as the lights of San Fran come into view.
I usually find that when I'm feeling bad, Republic always seems to fit the bill. It reminds me that I'm not the only one feeling the way I am. When things are good, however, I'm more likely to listen to GR, Substance or Technique (that last one's excellent when the sun's out).
When I'm in a confrontational mood or stressed, I usually plump for Sunrise cos that's one of the angriest New Order songs of all - it's a great one for getting the suppressed anger off your chest. The thrash out at the end is such wonderful catharsis!
:)

I agree with you...Republic is perfect. I can listen to it again and again in a loop and not get tired of it. Good mood...BLT, Round & Round or 60MPH at this point.
Thanks to all of you who replied and now i am CHILLING again i can get back to being my SILLY self.:D

Couldn't agree more, but needs to be played very loud. I seem to be playing it less and less these days, must be mellowing with age.

Glad to hear you're feeling better now. Must say the 'peel' cd with the instrumental extras cheers me up no end. Playing it right now, whilst staring at the bottom of an empty bottle.
