From their unhinged noisy scuzz-out beginnings we then get truly divine sumptuous music like Deserter's Songs : some of those numbers: Holes, Tonite It Shows, Endlessly, Opus 40 are so otherworldly and gorgeous and heavenly they make me weep. ..... like music you hear in dreams. Lovely. I like their new record too, but I 've only listened to it a couple of times so far. It'll grow on me yet!!

Share your verdict about "C'mon Kids" although "kingsize" was criminally ignored here in UK, and that caused them to split up afterwards....such a lovely record, and nobody bought it...boo hoo.....

Right - in answer to your last Question..... Did you know Sice has now officially retired from making music altogether and has a little mansion in the Berkshire countryside where he shares it with his wife, two kids, and six cats?? Didn't think so.

Some of the songs you mentionned are among my faves too. There's so many of them...

And I also like that oddball that is 'Don't Take Your Gun To Town'.

I think I must have almost every fucking b-side.

As for the New Rev album, I don't like everything on it but the opening track is so heartbreaking I could forgive them everything.

Eggman's LP is a cutie: I do love it as much as any Boos one, cause it shows that Sice can write equally good songs by himself too. As for every b-side: I've done my own Boo Radleys B-side Compilation called "Music For Astronauts" which collects a good 95% of them crammed onto one CD. "Firesky" kicks the whole thing off, and it finishes with "Safe At Home" Did the artwork and packaging for it too - my own special present to myself, in a spankingly exclusive limited edition of one. So, no, I don't think it's technically illegal!!!

Hmmmmm. Personally thought "Everything's Alright Forever" (killer title!) was their best record. It all got a bit contrived and look-we're-so-eclectic-and-avante-garde after that. And, Lordy, they were SO shit live.

But yeah, "EAF" was a killer record. The Pale Saints were (briefly) great as well....

Yeah - 1992 - the golden year for both Pale Saints and The Boos before the former disappeared off the face of the earth and the latter started flirting with the charts. " E.A.F. " was THE soundtrack to my "lost" summer, whilst "Comforts of Madness " and the "Flesh Balloon" EP (just adore their take on "Kinky Love") bookended my last perfect relationship with a girl who shared exactly the same musical tastes as myself.....swoon...

Do you remember that by the time of EAF and In Ribbons, the 2 bands together ?

Top Pale Saints songs : Half-Life Remembered (1st version), Sight Of You, Time Thief, Little Hammer, A Thousand starts burst open.

My best Boo live souvenir is from that time.

YES!! The two bands co-headlining: what a cool idea - and both bands were at the same kind of commercial level then too: both LPs out same day, both with free limited edition 7" singles inside . Pale Saints got a brass band to do covers of two of their songs: 1000 Stars and A Revelation: most bizarre, but just typical of PS too - what did you think of these versions? I thought they were most unusual, but enjoyable all the same! Fave Pale Saints songs, since you've got me started, include: (not definitive by any means): Babymaker (Ist version); You Tear The World In Two; Kinky Love; 1000 Stars; Thread of Light; Sight Of You; Half Life Remembered (Ist Version); Fine Friend (only post-Ian Masters single they did); Sea of Sound; Time Thief; Deep Sleep for Steven; A Revelation II (the very strange 5th, unlisted, track on the Half-life 12" Vinyl single - not on CD); Porpoise; and , last but not least, some of the weird between-track links on their first "Comforts of Madness" LP - especially the truly deranged wig-out between "Insubstantial" and "Deep Sleep..." Phew!!

Talking about the Boo Radleys, did you know, Martin, that the music accompanying the opening credits to "So I Married An Axe Murderer" (a surprisingly very nice film) is a cover of The La's 'There She Goes' by Sice and the boys ?

It's pretty good too! Shame they never made it commercially available - as a B-side to one of their last singles for example.... I'm just wondering if any of those of you who don't reside in the UK have managed to catch this programme ..... is there a decent UK channel, cable or otherwise on which you' were able to see it more or less at the same time as us? I'm thinking...how many hours behind are you on the East coast of North America...five or six? In that case, it'll be about 9pm evening EDT - is that correct?

The show airs on the BBCAmerica channel at midnite on Saturdays, but not in the same order as in the UK. The listings for the next several shows don't have New Order, so I'm guessing that the episodes shown here are several months behind what's shown in the UK.

New Order on Jools Holland? BLEEEUUURRGGGHHH!! JEEZUS.... I'VE NEVER SEEN SO MANY WOBBLING CHINS....!! UGH!!!
