How is the third Disc of Retro?

Just curious but how are the songs on the third disc of Retro. I have heard the 1963 [Arthur Baker Remix] and Confusion [Koma and Bones Mix] and I must say they are pretty good. Are the other songs on this CD good? What do you think about the disc in general?

I am considering getting Retro if this is a good disc--otherwise sinceI will just buy the albums of New Order I don't have sometime over the next few months--but if Retros third disc is good enough I might just get Retro instead.

Any help or opinions would be great--thanks.

i think it's fantastic, bar the regret sabres slow 'n' low remix, which i don't care for, but which some other members on here seem to really fancy--depends on your tastes, i suppose. it does what it says on the package--slow and low. anyway, it's probably the disc i've listened to the most out of the 5. the confusion remix just blows me away, and i'm also partial to the here to stay instrumental.

having said that, if your choice is between buying retro or buying the albums, buy the albums! you get more for your money in the end.

Yes but arent most of the best album songs already on Retro? So I would pretty much get those and the REMIX disc (which I really want).

Just thought I would mention I already have Technique, Get Ready, and Substance as my New Order albums....

Well the Albums I would need are: -Power, Corruption and Lies Songs: Age of Consent, Your Silent Face -Low Life Songs: Subculture, Perfect Kiss, Elegia, This Time of Night, Love Vigalantes -Brotherhood Songs: BLT, Paradise, All Day Long

Those were the main songs I could come up with in my missing albums. Also Regret is on Retro as well....

Considering I have Substance--wouldn't it be smarter to get Retro since most of the best songs on New Orders first three albums are on RETRO?

love vigilantes isn't on retro, and as low-life is an all-around great album i think it's imperative to own. same for PC&L and brotherhood. then movement, then, erm, republic (of the ones you don't have yet). this is just my opinion on album quality--you may end up feeling differently.

part of what's interesting about owning the albums, instead of just retro, is noting how the sound of NO has changed throughout the years, as you can hear their creative progression (or regression!) from album to album.

retro's fine, but it does leave out some good songs, as you may have noticed from the complaining on this site!

Yes Agent Wood. Only thing is I would really like to hear some modern mixes of New Order as well. I probably will get the albums as well sometime as well. But Im just not sure which to get first.

I have heard like 3-4 of the club/remixes song and I think most of them have a nice modern touch--I heard them on Musicmatch. Some arent great but a few are very good.

I think perhaps that you will end up buying everything ever done by New Order. It just becomes an obsession. But do it very slowly because every now and then you come across something you've never heard before and you go "wow, fantastic". I still do that and whilst I am very envious of some of the people on this site who have recordings of NO's every fart ;) I console myself by occasionally 'discovering' a new NO song. Oh yes and then you move on to Joy Division.

Without wishing to appear rude does malakas mean wankers in English? I only ask this because I recall a holiday in Greece some years ago with Club 18-30 which involved chanting a similar sounding word which we were told meant wankers.

Yes, but then unfortunately youll discover just how poor JD sound in comparison to New Order. Leave Joy Division to the goths & miserablists, theres only ONE world-beating band, & its the combo who had a woman join em of keyboards after a singer commited suicide....

Having said all that, I do own a lot of Joy Division CDs. Its like Small Boy said, youll get obsessed. I carried on buying JD stuff even though I knew I didn`t like it, cos I was a completist

I would suggest getting Retro (bonus disc still available!!!), then both Technique and Low Life if the money will stretch.

my local shop still has 3 UK versions with Bonus disc for about 65bucks. I would say approximately 10 copies including bonus disc can be found in the Seattle area. Shouldn't be too hard to track one down in Europe. We could work out something if you absolutely can't find a copy with the bonus disc. Let me know if you need some assistance.

My advice for the person wanting Retro or individual albums is go for Retro NOW while the bonus disc is available and then start picking up the Albums. You will eventually NEED the LP's not to mention a few 12"s as well to get those AWESOME b-sides (DON"T DO IT etc...)

in summary:

----retro + bonus = still available BUY NOW DON'T DELAY ----Full Albums = Essential...wait till you get desperate or until reissues surface with liner notes, remastered tracks...you know it will happen. ----12" singles = start searching now for those elusive, gorgeous singles...nothing like the original Factory Communications issue of newOrder singles

It's underrated. Not all my favourite remixes, and one or two non-remixes e.g. EGG (pun fully intended) but it's a good listen. Disc 1 is a bit of a lost opportunity but never mind.

So I might as well buy remixes seperately? And just buy the normal albums?

I'll bear it in mind. I've got the troops out in bonny Scotland looking for it but so far no luck.

Attention: Retro is not a greatest hits box set, it is an overview of their whole career, but I love this box set anyway, it is full of great tracks. I think disc four (LIVE) is the best for all the wonderful live tracks on it and disc two (FAN) for all the album tracks I've missed for so long. The third disc (CLUB) is okay, but the "regret" remix, the "world in motion" remix and the "here to stay" instrumental mix all suck. The first disc (POP) has most of their singles and is a good listen. I also have the fifth bonus CD. This is the track listing:
