Barney doing his Bez dancing on the TOTP rendition of Fine Time is a fave of mine. That & Hooky on OSM doing The Happy One.
I remember a great documentary transmitted on channel 4 in the early 80's. I think it was called New Order Play at home?. A couple of scenes stick in my mind Hookey dirtbiking around Cheshire and the horrible sight of Antony Wilson nude taking a bath with Gillian (Gillian more modestly wearing a dress).
Anyone else rememeber this? the Cornerhouse (an arthouse cinema complex in Manchester) recently had a showing to tie in with 24 Hour Party People, unfortunately I missed it.
Play At Home was indeed shown in 84, it's not something I watch over and over, but the 3 songs showcased were great (Lonesome, Thieves and Temptation live from the Hac) I have listed almost all their live british appearances on my videology thread on the buy/sell/trade forum....but can't be fucked to go and find it.
Having almost everything they've done, my highlights are The Whistle Test 85 Saturday Live 84 and the interview on Veronica's Countdown where the drummer and singer rip the piss out of the interviewer. There are many, many more highlights, and they're all special in different ways, espescially The Big World Cafe 89, John taped it, and when I got me hands on the vid - I watched it over and over, as a young 14 year old, I was well taken aback by the STYLE.
Rock Around the Clock (Saturday Live) 1984 is one of the most insightful performances, and Big World Cafe 1989 saw them really coming of age as live performers, so that's fairly historic too :)
And the feisty performance on Later in 2001 is a joy to watch too.
Whistle Test 1985 as I had only been into them since Lowlife. Loved it when Barney's guitar was knackered for the start of Sunrise, could only happen to the Order! Isn't that the night when they performed two sets at the Hac?

I think the Rock Around The Clock 5 song set is probably my personal favourite. Watching Barney just about hold it together - who else does gigs on tv that tense ? Whistle Test was superb too as I'd just got into them in a big way. I can vaguely remember watching the Play at Home documentary before I was really big into NO, so I wish I could see it again with hindsight. Why can't they add these things to the DVD releases, wouldn't hurt. It's made me think they're long overdue a South Bank Show special compared to some of the no-marks they get on there nowadays. C'mon Melvyn, pull your artistic finger out!

Yes Indeed, the songs that were aired, As It Is and Sunrise where played in the first set, I think AII also featured in the second set.
I have both on CD, thanks to a good lad on here, and have to say the first set is one of my favourites. The second set sounded too "Drawn out" and Barney couldnae be bothered

They did two sets in 82 as well.
Still loved MAKING OUT because of all the music which reminded me so much about the group.The plot was a bit cheesy but seeing NEW ORDER (although it was the OTHER TWO!) credited made my night.I kept saying this reminds me of the ORDER.I was NEARLY right.CLASSIC
Love "Blue Monday" on TOTP, but also Regret (greatest moments on NO Story: some wierdo in a bunny suit as the announcer is shown introducing NO and Hasselhoff crashing the beach "Baywatch" concert)
Hasselhoff (after NO finish): "Now can we do 'Louie, Louie'?"
