I have just watched again 511 in Finsbury and I am now starting to believe, all though I can't believe it, that it is better than 316 at Reading.

Can someone help me out?

Technically, you may be right.

Aesthetically, it's so wrong (no Gillian).

Yeah, and 316 was filmed at night. That´s much better cause you can use light effects.

I prefer 5 11 cos i was dazed and confused whilst there that day due to the KFC incident so at last i can watch the concert in a PROPER state.Sober and out.....:D Rocket Mick

3 16 is far superior ! You have definitely been drinking too much .....

I like 511 better, because it is in the daytime. Only because the only time I saw new order live was in Vancouver in the daytime. So it kinda looks the same to me. Also this concert looks more real then the rest of their concert videos. But I will admitt the sound is better for 316. But 511 is more fun to watch.

Funny, my copy of 5 11 is far superior (large screen TV, big speakers) to my copy of 3 16 (small computer monitor, tiny tinny computer speakers).

Oh that's right, I live in the United Satans of America. :banghead:

They were both filmed at 'night'. Think they were on stage for about 8-8.15pm for Finsbury and no later than 8.30 for Reading cos they were supporting.

It was, of course, much darker for Reading cos the evenings had started to draw in by then.

Both were great days out - drinking loads beer, then drinking loads of beer, and a wee bit more beer, you can see where I'm going with this:D

Reading 98 was my first chance to see them play Joy Division songs, so it was memorable as fuck for that, quite a flawless set really.....just a pity they are still using it these days:lol: Finsburgh was great as well, it was the first time I had seen them play Brutal, Digital and She's Lost Control. To be fair the banter was good at both gigs, I personally prefer Finsbury, cos I remember more of the gig:beer:

Their live video's mature with age as does indeed all neworder material!

316 is still a better spectacle in my opinion although 511 just shades it on the set list :)

They've learned how to edit mistakes out on 511.

3 16 has GG and the lovely bit where B plays the synths together with her. The band really appears to be glad to be playing together again.

I prefer 5 11 because I was there and I can see myself and my girlfriend in several bits in the audience (takes al lot of pausing and zooming though). A lot of the songs ROCK (Crystal, Ceremony, Temptation, the JD-stuff). The downside is that they completely f#ck up Close Range and play a very slow and uninspired version of BLT. I didn't notice is at the time tough, because I had too great a time dancing at the front. Alcohol consumption might have played a part . Another thing: there is hardly any interaction between Stevie and the rest of the band. I wonder if he is enjoying himself behing his kit.

He has a laugh and gets up from behind his drumkit and buggers off though when Barney tells em he wrote Temptation and doesnt need them!

it's just a shame they couldn't edit out Barney's screaming on 5 11. that spoils it for me....

And the DRUGS!

5 11 makes me feel old at times. 3 16 less so. I think Ceremony on 5 11 is very good though. As I haven't seen many videos or such otherwise, the Taras Shevchenko is a very big plus for me.

alcohol certainly makes Pumped Full of Drugs more enjoyable. Makes me almost as excited as the audience. "Here's another one you don't love..."

511 is in my opinion the best piece of music I own. The energy of the concert eclipses that of 316, it's just contagious.

511 is as good as any concert NO have ever given (in my opinion). The extras on the DVD help make it personal and poignant. I actually believe these guys really love what they do put a lot of heart felt care into this performance. I wish I could have been there. I just received a VHS copy of Taras Shevchenko for comparison sake. The 20 year journey is remarkable.

Couldn't agree more Russell. I have the Taras gig on DVD and yeah...they have improved slightly. Most notably, the entire band sound is a lot more punchy and not so drifty. Bernard's vocals are in your face, I'm-proud-to-be-alive in 511 and it fits the songs, even LWTUA.

I would be very very interested to see some concert footage of the PCL/LowLife era and gauge where they were at at that point. Because really, Taras can be lumped in with Movement in the big "Ianless" category, but in the band's regeneration I would find the live stuff pretty interesting.

Out of curiosity Love Will Tear Us Apart, were you one of the ones to get chucked out? Did you know any of them? It was complete moshpit madness in those front rows...but I would have given up my god knows what to be at that concert.

As an aside, do you have a favourite song from the performance?

No,I wasn´t.I was almost squeezed by a 2 meters height hooligan behind me but I miraculously survived.A friend from Rio de Janeiro was chucked out,you can see him singing blt on the video. My favourities from that day were Transmission,Regret and She´s lost control. :thumb:
