I can't be the only one downloading the otherwise unavailable live Joy Division mp3's, can I? I'm talking about:
Komakino - from the Lyceum show featured on the boxed set Colony - from the Ajanta Theatre show in April '80 Dead Souls - from the University of London Union in Feb. '80 Love Will Tear Us Apart - also from Feb. '80
These are all unavailable in stores, are soundboard-quality, and must be coming from someone with access to the JD bootleg archives.
I'm guessing moreover that the person releasing these has authorized access, because the tracks released seem carefully chosen:
- Komakino would have appeared on the boxed set, but there was no room left on the disc.
- Colony was the only track from its show that has been unavailable on bootlegs.
- Dead Souls appears in a form closer to the studio version on 'Substance', albeit with a stronger beat, whereas the Dead Souls of the boxed set was more raw, more punk.
- LWTUA appears in a great live version, and no great live version of this song has yet been available. (I don't view the Les Bains Douches version as being particularly compelling.)
I'd love to hear others' views on these tracks, especially if you have even the faintest idea who's behind them.
