And not necessairly on the first week, their peak might have been the first week, but then they started to grow and climb the chart.
How many of these are there? none from Get Ready, Regret is one, I guess True Faith and Blue Monday, but other than that?
I'm curious to know!

Temptation defo did. I remember that going, like, 38, 33, 27, etc.
Ceremony was in the top 40 for a few weeks too, I think, hovering somewhere between 30-40.
Blue Monday's the best example. Charted in March 83, then re-charted in August, same week as Confusion, I think?
Think Thieves like us rose as well?
I think basically most tracks went in, rose after one week, then fell. Or fell immediately if they'd just done TOTP! ;)
We all know what my memory is like.....but, did True Faith not climb a couple of times? I know it got to Number 4, but I always thought it entered about 10, then due to the video and half decent radio play it rised and rised again??

When the video won the BPI it wasn't voted by fans, but by Radio 1 DJ's, that's probably why it got more airplay;)

I'm surprised at BLT poor chart showing in the UK. It went as high as number 5 in Australia and is the most popular NO song here with the exception of BM. It still gets plenty of airplay across most stations.

Still cannae believe it masel! A stomping classic, and if yer lucky enough to hear the full 12" in a nightclub with a few beers inside, it's even better....myself, Majorboy and Liv were in a nightclub when it was played specially for us, you should have seen our dancing
SUBCULTURE was even worse but lots of their singles never made the mark in the charts ,let alone rose.If it was not people like me buying numerous copies it could have been a lot worse.Mind you BLACKBURN YOUTH nicked a lot!:D
"True Faith" got into the Top10 in Germany i remember. but it all had very much to do with the video..."Touched By The Hand God" on 35 the first week, then it went downwards.

What really surprised me was, that "Here To Stay" entered the german single charts at 65 the first week. they did nearly NO promotion, no airplay, some very rare video-performances on german MTV and no reviews in mags...

Have to agree with you there Al. Subculture especially 
I've always thought the reason that Perfect Kiss, Subculture, Bizarre Love Triangle didn't make the Top 40 was simply because they were already released on albums (albeit different versions) and not everybody buys everything a band does. Shellshock and State of the Nation were not on albums so they got higher to 30-something which was the usual NO placing in the 80s. Not because they were better songs than PK, SC, BLT (obviously!) just that they were only available on single. The chart placings were all very steady from 1981 to 1987, showing a faithful following but when Substance came out it brought on a whole new second following of people who were vaguely interested who only buy Best Of's. I can remember 1983 being the bonkers year in the chart. I'm estimating here, but Blue Monday slowly climbed to No14? in March/April then out again, then Love Will Tear Us Apart went back in the charts to about No19 in the summer (I didn't know it was the same band at the time). Then Confusion came out in August to about No12 and as it was falling Blue Monday re-entered and went higher to about No11. All very odd, then again Frankie Goes To Hollywood did something similar on a grander scale the following year with Relax and Two Tribes. In the end I wouldn't care if they'd all reached No41 as long as I could buy them.

From memory, I think LWTUA had been deleted, but was actually purposely re-released. It's not like it just snuck into the charts on the back of Blue Monday's success.. .
Yeah, I never did really understand in retrospect why LWTUA went back into the charts 3 years later. I can only guess that it was because Paul Young (remember him?) covered it on his album No-Parlez which was really big that year (I think if I've got my years correct) and there were enough inquisitive people out there who went searching for the original.

Crystal must have climbed to number 8, because I recall reading a review some time ago concerning New Order's comeback into British charts, and how Crytsal wasn't played much immediately but slowly rose through radio playlists. In australia it came and went within a matter of a month or so.
I seem to remember NO having quite a few songs hit No 1 on the Billboard "dance" charts back in the 80's here in the states....
