No, the albums are NOT to be re-released (at least for now :D), but if they WERE to be, what would you like to see? For me, I'd vote for: -Remastered sound -Exact replicas of the sleeves (no Low-Life-style travesties, thank you very much!) -Exact replicas of the vynil stickers (PCL would look very nice, wouldn't it?) -NO extra tracks a la PCL american version and Brotherhood CD version

And you?

... I'm with Mick - there's nothing wrong with the originals. In fact, I don't like tampering with goods, if ain't fixed, then don't break it or attempt to apply superior glue.

The travesty with Low-Light, I hope you mean the hideous and un-defendable scurilous 'courier' default error typeface that has snuck through for the last 10 years!?

Mick - if you seriously keep fish inside your house. You better have a warrant. Illegal fish houses inside houses usually end up in glass crack and then fish flow onto the carpet.

Best thing to do Maestro is contact a local fish dealer who will be able to set them free in the sea off Cornwall or somewhere nice.

Never flush a fish down the plug hole ... unless that fish is in fact a used bubbly wrapped in bog roll.

Don't forget, somebody once said they were 'never very interested in shoe horns' until that very same person bought a pair of new shoes ever so slightly tight for their tootsies.

I completely agree. A remastered Brotherhood would be most welcome.

However, the LMA on Retro is practically ruined.

If the albums were noticably better in sound quality, that would be great, but aside from Bro'hood I don't think there are much complaints about the quality of the albums, so there wouldn't be much of a point.

Side-note: Picked up the remastered version of the Who's Quadrophenia Saturday, I haven't listened to the album in ages but it seems like the remaster is a great improvement on the original CD release in terms of sonic quality (my earlier copy always seemed a bit muddy). However, unless I'm mistaken the first few seconds of "5:15" seem to be cut off, ala the single version. It could be I wasn't paying attention, but it sure seems like those first few seconds with the porter announcing the trains is missing. If so, it's not a big loss per se, but I was wondering if anyone else who had a copy (and knew what the hell I was blabbing on about) noticed the same thing. Oh well, you take the good and you take the bad, you mix it all together and you get.......you get.....how does the song end? :D

Tabsy tab - older stuff is probably far more noticeable than newer stuff, thus it could do with an audible facelift - not sure about this Quadropheonix album so I can't comment on no train driver cut-offs.

Pastie, LMA 'practically ruined' on Retro? - what do you mean. I haven't scutinised Retro as most stuff I've already heard and thus haven't played but is it really different?

I was waiting for a good slot to really listen to the whole 5 CD's in comfort and luxury - I only thought NO had tweaked the sound to make it even better!?

Of note, somebody lent me a Ronan Keating DVD (sorry) - and at the weekend we put it on for a laugh (and believe me, seeing Roland flying whilst paying tribute to Elvis's 'In The Gateau' was both hilarious and upsetting) - the audio difference between Finsbury Park and Roland (both brand new) was 'massive'. New Order's sound huge, well defined and crisp, Roland, muffled and nose bag worthy. Both filmed in 5.1 and we played them through our fantastic surround system (might not have mentioned this before).

A bit like when Substance was released on CD.

I'd vote for a double CD release of each album with b-sides, remixes and rarities on the 2nd CD.

Wait, that's Recycle

And you?

I could be suckered into buying the CD's again if they followed the example set by the Pet Shop Boys re-releases. I wouldn't expect the book with lyrics and anecdotes about each track but the 2 CD format for each album was great. Disc 1 contained a remastered version of the original UK album. Disc 2 was filled with mixes, b-sides and unreleased tracks.

While I subscribe to the belief that there's no worthy unreleased songs in the vault, some live favourites from the appropriate era would do just nicely.

Everything is remastered. The material from Brotherhood is immensely improved. LMA is altered, but definitely not improved. One obvious difference is that the drums are slightly more prominent. The guitar and bass sounds are slightly different. The overall effect, to my ears, is that the magic is lost. It's horrible.

Yeah, remaster (subtly, though) and re-release the following:

Movement Power, Corruption & Lies Low-life Brotherhood Substance Technique Republic (wouldn't need much remastering, in fact)

Then add an extra disc, as the Pet Shop Boys did with their early albums. And bung on the following tracks, to make up for the woeful lack of rareties on 'Retro'. I know there's lots of different mixes of the same songs, but we're after these hard-to-find tracks on CD, godammit - and we'd all rush out and buy these just for the second discs, which should include:

That's an excellent breakdown there Andrew! I'd certainly be interested if such a format was ever issued. Mind you, we wouldn't need the 12" version of Fine Time (4 mins 43 secs) on "Technique Plus" cos it's identical to the original album cut anyway! Instead, insert the second 12" of Fine Time with the "Silk Mix" and "Messed Around Mix" in its place.

;)

But what about me...i have all these so what NEW stuff do i get, just thinking there must be something out there for me!:wink: But a good break down of tracks there ANDREW...must have taken ages to put together.

Not so, despite popular opinion. The twelve inch mix on FAC 223 is in fact a slightly different mix with exactly the same running time. No one ever believes me on this one, but get the original twelve inch on the vinyl, play it at 1:16-1:20, then play the same section on 'Technique' - a different version, see? Just an alternate take, I suppose, for the sake of having an ever-so slightly different mix on the single version, but I've not seen this on any of the 'Fine Time' CD formats (all have the seven inch edit).

Yeah, but you'll get decent, shiny versions on CD without vinyl crackle - isn't that the whole point to re-releasing these things?

Other than that, perhaps you could get each member of the band to take a dictating machine around with them for a day - then if they post it to you, you'd have four exclusive new recordings you don't already have!!

List didn't take too long by the way - just a good knowledge of the back catalogue.

Returning to Leave My Wife Well Alone on Reptile, personally, I was not openly wounded by the re-tinkling. It may have been necessary to compare immediately after playing the Powder, Custard and Lemon original to take on board the differences?

In a George/geek type situation it may be an idea to run the two versions through a parametric equaliser which would highlight visually the differences between them; perhaps showing up this curious 'drums too loud' accusation. But that would be a bit naughty and really at that stage you may as well start reading how many calories are contained within a standard helping of toothpaste.

Which presumably many women already do (including George).

Also, the 'BrotherMonkey' tracks - to be honest I couldn't tell much difference!? - certainly not enough to comment and really, I am a bit of a nutcase when it comes to analysing the sound of stuff.

Before anyone may assume my ears are made of wood, remember I can talk to stray bicen and call owls lost in the woods with my beak.

I take it you mean my list of each New Order track I've got in my collection at http://www.morriso.btinternet.co.uk/NewOrderTrackList.html? If you mean my own website, that's a long ongoing hobby, and recent university project. Both have taken up far, far too much time, and I really need to go out and play in the fresh air or something...

Yes these lists are very IMPRESSIVE.Shugzv recently listed 320 actual CDs/albums that i have so my list of tracks is quite comprehensive. He did not list any VIDEOS/DVD/TAPES/LIVE or MP3's i had 0R he would still be doing this. What i have noted is that i only have about 7 of the items you are still looking for.My list of WANTS is still in the region of about 150.But then again...it is never ending.Cheers ANDY and HIBSTER for pointing this site out.I will use this for future reference aswell.Bloody great effort indeed. And nothing wrong with staying in now and again. Cheers ROCKET MICK

Andy Not literally...the POLISH one YES.But as for the other two..never even the BLT one unless SHUGZV knows better. The JAPANESE BLUE MONDAY was £40 the last time i thought about getting it YEARS ago but there was so much MORE i WANTED then i probably blew the dosh on about 3 choice items instead.Unless i could get something in absolute MINT condition..which meant me visiting the seller i tended to shy away from such purchases.Hence i have never bought a single item from E-BAY but HAVE used dealers who i know that when they say MINTY MINT they mean it!

Don't forget that I'm not a completist in the "buying every issue of every release" sense - just trying to get every mix and track New Order have ever recorded, preferably on CD. I've some 800 CDs (all bought, none copied) in my entire music collection, and I dread to think how many of those are New Order, but I'm not bothered about getting the tape/vinyl/CD of every album, as long as I have a just a CD copy. You have to draw the line somewhere. Mind you, I've got every officially released UK 7", CD and cassette single and 12", as far as I'm aware.

Andy. No worries. My problem now is that all the remaining rare edits and tracks I'm trying to find are bleedin' expensive, and it's costing me quite a bit at online record stores and Ebay... Never mind, it's just a few remaining bits now, so one every couple of months (if I can track 'em down)... Extended Edit, indeed....

Mmm, I've just counted 32 different mixes of 'Confusion' in that list of mine - and I've the final, 33rd version in the post to me as I type (Rough Trade edit).

Only 20 versions of 'Blue Monday', however, with a further 7 still waiting to be tracked down.

Hey, I wonder if any of the actual band members have heard every mix and edit that's been done of their music?
