And if they do, I wonder what the hell they think. Or, indeed, if I am actually confusing them with people who give a shit about what their fans say

NO.

If they did, it was only once and they were so petrified that they got a restraining order against Shug

Didn't Barney once say he doesn't like talking about his family 'cos there's lots of weirdos around ? I think you're probably right...

Hooky's kids do, as do the band's management. How else do you think we got Love Vigilantes at Old Trafford ?

Well, I figured somebody out there must do, for that reason alone ! Hello, whoever you are :)

Message to Hooky's kids: Tell your dad to regrow the mullet. It's just not the same :thumb:

To the management: Thanks for continually screwing the North American fans (316, hello?) :finger:

I do visit the board sometimes. When major lets me out of my cupboard.

hmmmmm....more pissing and moaning...

no wonder the order hates the States...

remember...they aren't screwing us...they are simply making "sound business decisions"...

why couldn't Enron have been in the entertainment field...they would have made new Order look like a Michael Jackson (sales wise...not physically)...

Funny how Stephen Morris popped up in the Retro booklet to settle the Cries And Whispers / Mesh argument after we'd spent the previous month debating it, don't you think?

Also John McCready's comment about "I'm sure you've all posted your own tracklisting in some troublingly obsessive chat room" in the same booklet...

You would visit though, wouldn't you? Tell me no one here's ever stuck their name in a search engine just to see what comes up. It's all down to human vanity. It must be another thing entirely though trying not to react to some of the more negative comments, particularly when they border on the personal (weight, etc).

We've already heard from Jonathan that Andy Robinson reads these pages, so I don't see why the band themselves shouldn't. ..

It would be naive to think New Order and people with a commercial interest (as well as the fans) do not visit places like this for so many reasons. Access to a core fanbase without costing them a penny? (unless they are on AOL), reams of info. on their own material (possibly are even using us who recall their own career more readily), check out the latest opinions ... the list is endless and could even run on forever.

If somebody set-up a site about Rocket Mick (admittedly, it would only be a small homepage with 2 pieces of text; Rocket and Mick - perhaps a picture of a goat) then who would you think would visit? - for one, Rocket Mick and then the owner of the goat he stole from.

The only thing that is slightly worrying is the fact that there is a lot of maniacs about and thus (as somebody already pointed out) Bernard Sumner is not going to post as Bernard Sumner. I'd guess he would occasionally check for a laugh.

I'm willing to stake 15 pence on the fact that at least one member of New Order have logged-on as a fake name to post in a comedic, irony situation!? - to perhaps take the rise out of himself or herself - or just to mingle and discuss spuds?

Not saying who I might think it is though ...

if i had an entire site dedicated to me and my goings-on, i'd be far too tempted to see what others were writing about me, positive or otherwise. i'm sure barney and hooky have gotten pissed, sat in front of their computers, and said, 'right, let's see what those kids over at that website are saying about us today.'

He's the Other Mr. Wilson, I had myself cloned (or did he have himself cloned? I can never keep it straight) in the late 70s, just for the hell of it. And if you believe that, I've got some lovely ocean front property in Switzerland I'd like to sell you.....

I hope New Order never visit these message forums. Seeing all the emotionally-retarded anals who post some absolute worrying shite here would be enough to put them off recording together ever again

I'm sure they had a quick look once out of curiosity, then thought "oh no, this is way too much to handle". But I'm sure someone in their label management team keeps tabs of opinions. I think in the music industry it's probably only the paranoid Courtney Love who browses every hour for bitching, everyone else is too busy songwriting or hedonising or driving their tanks.

Altough that one is due to Jonathan Scott telling Andy Robinson about us.. don't know if the man himself read our seriously rough thoughts about it...

Fells a bit like the old Monty Python skit, where someone mentions the name of a little town and one of the housewives (Eric, I think) comes running out of the house screaming, "he mentioned us on the telly!" and continuing to do so every time the town's name was said :D

Well, like I said, I'm Tony Fucking Wilson :blackeye:

Hmmm...If I were Barney, what better way would there be to spend an afternoon than to skim 90-some fan posts about my prodigious man-boobs? Yeah, I'd be bookmarking that one.

In a related yet non-related tangent, the writers of The Simpsons very obviously were reading the alt.tv.simpsons newsgroup, because Comic Book Store Guy is a direct tweak of the online fanbase and their neverending "Worst Episode Ever" thread.

That said, I'm still waiting for Stephen and Gillian to log on and set up a play date with our children; The Other Two and Gnu at the Zoo or somesuch.

Comic Book Guy's been around since the second season (pre-Internet, mind you), but he is a representation of the kind of nerdy self-obsessed idiots who spend all day chatting online about things they're obsessed with, be it sci-fi, TV, or.......a music group from Manchester!

I think Barney has a good sense of humor (at least judging by the interviews I've seem him give over the years...he could just be faking it for the camera!), so I doubt he would be crushed to see us discussing his need for a Manssiere. He's probably think we're all pervs, discussing the way he looks :spit:

Anyway, how'd this go from "wonder if the band ever looks us up?" to "Why would they, with all you freaks?" Let's have some fun, folks: this isn't a gathering of professionals but a bunch of silly people (myself included). You take stuff on here too seriously, you turn into Richard M. Nixon......

Since Rob Gretton passed away, this job is Andrew Robinson & Rebecca (don't remember her last name)'s job.

If I can simply amuse Shug, my job here is complete.

Honestly, though, I don't wonder why the band never post... because fans suck.

If fans didn't suck, bands wouldn't have developed the commando technique of ducking into venues via secret tunnels under cover of night. Stage doors wouldn't be guarded by feral savages who weld the door shut after the band is inside. Stages wouldn't be 20 feet high with friggin' spikes littered with the skeletons of the last morons who tried to get past security to hand the band a bouquet of posies.

This is necessary, though, because otherwise undeterred, hundreds of drunken fans will come onstage between sets every night to blather on about how they play drums too, but they use Paiste cymbals and those heavy sticks like that guy in Golden Palaminos...Anton something?...and suggest that it would be really cool if you could work sort of a "Led Zepplin" thing into your next album, and that next time your tour bus is going across Interstate 404 that there's this killer club in South Armpit Junction where your cousin's band plays every other Tuesday night.

That said, at least we fans have each other (or have had one another in a drunken stupor) and are free to post topics like "Worst Album" without fear of making Hooky cry :bass::cry: with, um, regret.

P.S. I love New Order...but not in a sexual way.

I smell the negative thinking in the air again. They all know how to use computers and they have plenty of free time. Why wouldn't they want to know what the (after all, record-buying) public thinks, and why wouldn't they say "Oh, what a nice friendly group of people, making friends and communicating all across the world in these troubled times. It's certailnly a honour to make music for them".
