I've decided to do a Budvar here (sorry, amigo, but, as they say, "thievery is the sincerest form of flattery"
) and, to celebrate my 1000th post, offer a special gift to anyone who wants it!
No, it's not a CD-R of a portuguese Joy Division tribute album (there isn't any!), but a copy of Setima Legião's debut album from 1984.
Who the fuck are they, I hear you ask?
Well, they're my favorite portuguese band ever and they're deeply influenced by Joy Division/early NewOrder (although they're not just copyists, mind!). The other link to JD/NO is that this album was released by Fundação Atlântica, a portuguese label that was responsable, among others, for Durutti Column's "Amigos em Portugal/Friends in Portugal" and was this close to signing a licensing deal with Factory.
Anyway, I love this with a fierce passion and was hoping to share it with you lot.
So, mail me if you're interested (bear in mind, though, that I don't have a CD-R burner and I'll have to rely on a friend to do this, so deliveries might be a little slow... but NOT as slow as the recording of a NewOrder album, I promise you that
)
My 1000th post gift

Xutos & Pontapés are deeply influenced by The Clash. They also had a single released by Fundação Atlântica... the only work from them I like, by the way!
May I take you on your kind offer? I had heard you before raving about 7Th legion and was kind of curious but never actually heard them.
I'll send you an email with my address. Moito obrigado! :)

Have you ever listened to Legião Urbana ? It's best brazilian band of all time to me.It finished in 1993 with the death of his singer Renato Russo (very influenced by Curtis). He was the best brazilian songwriter in my opinion.
Never heard them Julio, when you send overthat girl you had promised me maybe he could bring the CD also. I could return it to you later (the CD, I am keeping the girl, ta)

Yes, I knew them. Renato was a bit too Morrissey to my liking!

Maybe Jorge but Ian's much more.He also danced that "dead fly" dance and the lyrics were quite similar too.
i won´t ask you to send it over here (too expensive). so if you could choose the best tune and send it by email to me it would be great! as for Legião Urbana... very good band. Jorge is right about Renato´s closeness to Morrissey though. but i like Moz! :D

Pall, I know Renato was influenced by Joy Division, but no comparisons, please
. Legião Urbana is cheesy, is quite superficial. Being influenced doesn't mean that they "sounded like". As Monsieur said, they sounded more like The Smiths. But worse.:D

That's better! As for Kirschner... that coward Menem surely deserved to be beaten in the elections!
