This first came to my attention when I watched the MTV live session of tracks off the new blur album (Think Tank). The bass at the beginning of "Ambulance" is so reminiscent of Hooky's signature on "Truth". Its more noticeable on the live version rather than the album's recorded track.
If any of you have the purchased the LTD edition of Think Tank you will be able to watch the Ambulance performance on that, if not MTV2 are may be repeat it soon.
Anybody else picked up on this?
I hate Blur. Especially that "mockney" parasite Albarn. Anyone who thinks he`s cool by inflicting Mali Music on Western Civilisation needs to be shot once he finds his way from out of his own rear end.
Plus he said 'Parklife' was "comedy". First of all, thats an insult to everyone who bought that album in the past & who actually took it seriously. Secondly, how can Albarn have the balls to compare it to the legendary Monty Python? Thats like comparing a cold, creamy pint of Boddingtons to a chipped glass of lukewarm dog`s piss.

That reminds me, weren`t Fat Les AWFUL? They made me almost like Blur....
I think I've touched a raw nerve here. I was only making the comparisson between an Alex James bass riff and one of Hookys. Thing is though I look past the politics of bands and their extra baggage and just enjoy the music. And to be honest Blur's past 3 albums have had some great original music.
But i'm glad you have been able to let off some steam. ;)
Blur's one of thsoe bands I keep meaning to get more into, but so far have not. I've heard great things about Think Tank, so I'll probably pick it up sometime this summer...unless I forget 
as for any Hooky influence, more power to him if Alex is 
An Alex James interview from 3 or 4 years ago had him revealing Hooky as his ultimate bass hero. He said he learnt to play the bass playing Blue Monday riff at college.
The song that made me think "Hooky ripoff" more than any other recently was "Breathe In" by Frou Frou.

You keep meaning to get into Blur? If you like a band wouldnt you just go out & buy or listen to their stuff rather than ponce around claiming youre GOING to get into them, while filing your plans in your "To Do-Summer 2003" file....?
Besides, what if they turn out to be crap (which they are)? Youll have wasted all that time, effort & thought-power *wanting* to get into Blur, only to find you wish you hadnt.
This Autumn I might try a smidgen of Nat King Cole, washed down with lashings of Natalie Imbruglia. Then when Christmas comes round I`ll make a concerted effort to like System Of A Down, whilst also crowing about giving Perry Como a try....
