what's the deal with this JD demo only being a fragment? was the rest of the demo lost or terrible quality or what?

There was a story floating around that it was deliberately faded before the hangman line as the record company felt it "inappropriate".

On the other hand, something had to give to get everything to fit on the disc.

It´s Hooky tape. It would be great if he gave us the complete one. I´ll talk with David Sultan about this.

The thing that pisses me off about the Joy Division demos for "Ceremony" and "In A Lonely Place" is that it was recorded at a place called Cemetery Studios, who's the prick that booked them in there?

I think that was their name for their practice space. In any case those were of course recorded before Ian's death so there would have been no particular association at the time.

Not the Cemetary, It was recorded at 'The Graveyard' studios in Prestwich. The Graveyard gave it's name to the 'Graveyard & The Ballroom' by the mighty ACR (the other half from the Electric Ballroom I believe).

Yeah, in the first of the Jack articles Hooky says that Martin Hannett had the original 8-track master, and it was indeed 12 minutes long. One day...
