I am considering purchasing the Taras Schevenko VHS. Does anybody that has seen this concert have reviews on the concert and the overall sound/video quality?

There's been a few postings on this on this forum. It's good for it's time, with some interesting versions of New Order's early material from Movement, plus the EGG/Procession/Ceremony singles. There's also a very primitive version of Temptation.

Also, the first track is actually Chosen Time, not ICB as recorded.

Sound/visual is fine, but bear in mind it was shot in 1981. The Region 2-6 DVD release of it seems to have a better quality picture (dunno whether it was remastered).

DOn't expect much animation from the band. Hooky plays with his back to the audience thru most of it, Gillian has very big hair, Steven sweats a lot, and plays keys on Truth, and Barney gets a little electric shock off the mic.

Good, essential piece of New Order history - definitely go for it :)

Ditto what he says! Interesting historical document that's also watchable.

Don't hesitate, just buy it, it's a must-have! But you better purchase the 316 DVD which features both Taras (1981) and Reading (1998). The contrast is... well, just watch it and make your own mind!

They may struggle, as the DVD was not released in the US (unless they've got a multi-region player ?)

Thanks all for your inputs. I went right ahead an ordered it at amazon.com. I wish I could get 316 DVD instead, but I'm in the US and don't have the right player. Also ordered the Cure's Trilogy DVD while I was at it.

Temptation may have been only twice before, one time as an instrumental. Great video. Captures that moment in time. The only problem is Barney's vocals on Ceremony, beyond terrible, or else he was trying to make the band appear more Germanic.

Taras is also available on the 3.16 dvd which also features the 2000 Reading Festival concert and a 20 minute interview. $15.99 at Suncoast.

Am I missing something here??? Why not just get the US 316 that just came out? It is region 1. Sorry if I'm not following correctly

Though nobody seemed to know what was going on that night, including the band. It wasn't exactly Temptation that was played, merely something that would eventually sound like it.

Yeah.. I think that nobody did have any clue what was going on at all... i can imagine the stiff finnish audience and their faces when hooky started his EGG bass-riff over the dance loop :D

Classic.

could you not make it multi-region?

you can get the codes off the net, only problem is that if it goes wrong, your warrenty would be void.
