What does TARAS SHEVCHENKO mean?

Any idea? the name has always bugged me. I know the gig was filmed at the Ukranian National Home in New York, does this have anything to do with the title?

Yes, it's actually the name of a revolutionary democratic Ukrainian author - see here for his works, and also here for some piccies and stuff.

and the place is still up and running as far as i know-- it's in the village; i used to walk by it all the time. not sure about its history...i always naturally assumed it was a social club for the ukrainian community in the city?

not that i know of. i never came across any concerts being held there when i lived in new york, and never noticed any advertised in 'time out' recently.

one small note: there is a tiny 'taras shevchenko place,' apparently, connecting 6th and 7th streets, near the UNH in the east village!

i dont think they ever had many gigs there in fact if i am not mistaken new order played there because something happened to the original venue they were supposed to play on that date, so they moved it at th elast second to the ukranian national home i have to check because im pretty sure i read this in one of the history in cutting books

I took a trip to New York back in January and stumbled upon the Ukranian National Home. It seemed to be a sort of community centre and Ukranian restaurant. Didn't look like it was being used as a music venue anymore but it was nice to see a bit of New Order history on my trip.
