How did you first heard of New Order ?

Me, I don't recall if it was in 84 or 85 but I had never heard of them. And I had this friend who was a DJ. Once, at his home, he asked me to stand between his 2 huge speakers because he wanted to make me listen to something he thought I would like. It was "Blue Monday". And yes, I liked it. Progressively, I became a fan, bought "Low Life", than "Brotherhood" when it came out and New Order was forever my favorite band by far.

For me it was the Perfect Kiss video in around the same time period, 85 or 86.

Perfect Kiss And then I went back all the way to JD and Warsaw and then back to New Order again and stuck by them until the Smashing Pumpkins came with "Today"

But now "Someone Like You" keeps buzzing in my head and the Pumpkins have broken up so.....

Wow, impressive devotion by some people here. My tale is nonimpressive compared. Anyways, I had heard them on the radio and known who they were for quite some time, but I was never in to buying music back then(80's). Not until later(early 90's) that I heard the Frenté cover of Bizarre Love Triangle that I fell in love with the song, though I knew that it was really NO's, not hers (since it was the only decent song on her album). Slowly I listened to them more and more until today where I can't get enough them.

It was 1986, I was in first year university, was doing some DJ'ingon weekends, riding in the company truck after getting packed up after a school dance, and a crew guy popped a tape in and said "listen to this, this song kicks ass, it's the hottest song in the clubs right now". It was Bizarre Love Triangle. I was hooked. Played that song at every gig for the next 10 years, never got sick of it. Bought the Substance tape, played it constantly. Bought Technique when it came out. Wore out the Substance tape, replaced it with the CD (first CD I ever bought).

I was 12, in 1987, and I saw on TV the trailer for the movie "Bright Lights, Big City". The song that played throughout the preview was un-fuckin'-believable. Turns out it was "True Faith". The rest is history.

After hearing 'Transmission' on Radio 1's Roundtable in 1979 but I don't suppose this really counts. The first time I heard of 'New Order' was the press release in Sounds or NME (complete with the then obligatory and over the top facist/right wing join-the-dots connections) when they decided upon the new name in 1980.

I believe it had to back in Junior High when I first heard of New Order. The song that was effective to me was Blue Monday, it was so inspirational. Then when the movie Pretty In Pink was out the song that struck me the most was Thieves Like Us. That song did it! There lyrics and emotions they use in there songs just captivate you. I became an even bigger fan. From there they just keep getting better!

I first heard them when I was in graduate school in 1983/84. My across the hall friend was into bands that played bass, so he flipped on "Power, Coruption and Lies" and I loved it. Then and ex-girlfriend was into them also. I found out about Joy Division and really got "hooked' so to speak. By far my favorite band today.

My cousin played me Blue Monday, when i was about 11, and i loved it... My Mum bought me a copy of Substance later that year....

I was 26 today so it was a good while ago.... What made me a "fan" was 1963, loved that song then, love it now....

My story of how I became a New Order fan is not the same one as most here.
I used to be a "hip hop fan" and in the Spring of 1997 I met the man that changed my music life. We started talking on the phone and during the hours of talking at night he would play various cds from various 80s new wave artists for me. One of them was New Order. I remember him singing "we've got green eyes, we've got blue eyes, we've got greeeeey eyes". Ever since then I never listened to the old genre I knew and discovered a new one. New Order became my favorite out of all of them. The odd thing is that he tells me that I have become a bigger fan than him...strange.. I would like to thank him nonetheless.. I love him for that...

My sisters always reminding how much I disliked True Faith when I saw it on TV the first time, at the tender age of 12. Then I got hooked on Blue Monday 88. By the time Fine Time came out I had most the back catalogue. My mates were listening to Kylie, and there I'd be, 'air bassing' to Love will tear us apart. They thought I was odd, but there you go....

I was 14 years old, and getting really heavy into 70's punk rock. My favorite bands were The Sex Pistols and PIL. I was also pretty heavy into the Cure, NIN,Talking Heads, Patti Smith, The Buzzcocks, Nick Cave, and Depeche Mode.

A friend of mine gave me a VHS tape (this was around 1996) with a PBS documentary called Punk and the Perfect Beat. I loved the Punk half...watched the second half with great interest, learning about early NYC hip hop and Afrika Bambaatta..

Then it got to a section where a called called Bernard and a guy called Hooky were talking about some song they made called Blue Monday..they played a snippet of it and I was hooked.

A few days later, I bought The Best of New Order on a cassette tape for a dollar.

New Order became my favorite band. Their use of punk energy and sleek Electronic dance music inspired me to make my own music.

New Order reached for perfection, and always fell a little short. Their beauty was in that space where they fell short. Because their music was joyous, happy, sad, reflective, but always full of life, and that's why I love them.

As a teenager, growing up in a poor inner city city neighborhood infested with gangs, crime, and drugs, New Order's music gave me a light to dance towards, and provided me the soundtrack to dance my way out of that shithole in Columbus all the way to my office in SoHo in NYC.

I love them and always will.

I was 11 years old (1988). A radio station from Rio used to play "Blue Monday 88" in its full lenght 12" version at these times. I became a huge fan immediately.

Think I posted this once before ages ago.

Was sitting on the playing fields at school on a hot late spring day in May 82 when I was 14, someone had a small radio with them and this amazing song came on and just took my breath away. Didn't know at the time what it was or who it was by, but soon found out it was Temptation by New Order and from then on that was it, didn't really listen to much else but New Order for a long, long time after that. Loved them then, loved them now and always will... No other band has ever come close for me (including, apart from the odd track, even Joy Division in retrospect)!

Can't wait for the Troxy gig on Saturday.

i heard true faith on the radio one sunday evening and that was how i got into them. I always maintain true faith is my all time favourite song and its one of those songs you can listen to several times.

This was in early 2005, I was 16 and really into those DDR/ Dancing Stage video games. One of them had a cover of Bizarre Love Triangle. I didn't much mind the song at the time, and out of curiosity, I downloaded the original off the web, after seeing it on Rolling Stones 500 greatest songs of all time list.

At the time I was really into 80s music/ dance/ new wave, and when I heard New Order it totally blow me away. It sounded so much more advanced than everything else. I downloaded a whole bunch of other great music by them, I then bought WFTSC months later, and theyve been my fav band since.

Blue Monday on top of the pops, March 83. I thought they were shit but something must have changed when it re entered the charts later that year as i went out and bought it. Would probably have left it at that but then my brother bought P,C & L and i was completely bowled over by AOC. So really it was AOC that got me obsessed with em rather than BM.

Radio 1 broadcasted the April 83 Kilkenny gig around Christmas time 83 and that's when i first heard stuff like Ceremony and Temptation. Taped the broadcast and just got addicted to playing the cassette over and over.

"True Faith", aged 13, 1987. Dammit. So much cooler than the rest of my 13 year old chums who were into girls and booze.

Brotherhood. A party in Haslingden, Lancashire. 1986. In a bedroom trying to pull a girl from school. Failed. Angel Dust stayed with me from that moment on.

I grew up in Syracuse, NY where we had horrible radio and my parents only got cable around 1987 (when I was 9) and MTv was blocked until I was 13. So there I am flipping channels in the spring of 1993 when all of sudden on Entertainment Tonight of all places they run a bit about new music from the UK -- World Party's Bang! and New Order's forthcoming release Republic were featured. I heard my first snippet of Regret that night. I heard the whole song the very next day on the one station that might have considered playing it (I think they played 5 more times) and I purchased my first New Order. I poured over the album. Eventually, when I had the cash, I ordered Substance through a local store. It arrived one week after my brother abruptly passed away, along with my copy of joy Division's Substance. Both albums got me through a lot of emotions. I was hooked as a fan and started a massive bootleg collection that summer thanks to a store on the Hill at Syracuse University.

Think I mentioned this before. My sister had a boyfriend that made a cassette copy of Substance for her. I was 12 and heard the frogs on Perfect Kiss walking by her room one night and thought it was the coolest thing ever. I stole the tape from her one night and never returned it (well actually I did about 6 years later). Since have bought two cassettes of Substance (both stretched out), two cd sets (both got stolen) and finally decide forget buying a fifth copy, and illegally downloaded the fifth....

Love all the albums but Substance remains my heart and soul in music.

Round and Round, TOTP 89. Was into the Pet Shops Boys (not literally) and they were always going on about NO. Back then it was more fun being a fan - you'd dig out rarities and scour the press for news! Now you get everything straight off the Net of course.

I can remember hearing Regret and True Faith '94 on the radio as a kid growing up, I liked the odd track, Blue Monday '88 being my favourite of the handful I'd heard.

Simply cannot remember Crystal being released, it obviously didn't get nearly enough airplay as I'm sure I would have loved it [the radio/TV was broadcasting crap.. much like today]. I was familiar with the Jetstream single but didn't think much of it. I bought "SINGLES" after seeing the video of Regret on MTV 2, and eventually bought all of the albums and have never looked back!

Older brother had LWTUA when it was released and played it alot and later I heard Blue Monday 88 but didnt straight away connect the dots. I thought the video for BM 88 was the best thing ever.

well apart from the obvious JD link, I was 16, in a classroom and my friend produced a shiny 7" ceremony and put it on a 60s dansette that we could use at lunchtime. oh the luxuries.

BLue Monday in 83 got me listening, confusion made me think I'm definately going to love this band, then Lonesome Tonight set it in stone forever.

The first time I heard a New Order track was in 1987, when Channel 4 (UK TV station) used Shellshock as the theme for the end credits of an American Football programme. Blue Monday would later promopt me first to buy the 1995 remix CD single, then borrow his Substance 2-cassette compilation for ten years!

Around 2002/2003 when I heard True Faith on a music channel called the 'The Hits' - which happened to be the time when I first got into new wave/synthpop/alternative dance music from playing and listening to the sountrack on GTA Vice City! This prompted me to purchase 'Singles' and then 'Substance', the rest is history :D

I had seen Joy Division suporting Buzzcocks twice in the same week. To be honest I wasn't too impressed. Some time later a mate said remember Joy Division (I was aware of what happened with Ian) they have formed a new band called New Order and they are playing in Blackburn. So off we went and I was hooked.
