That's a tricky one, isn't ? I don't know if I have a worst one but I'm not crazy about "State Of The Nation". Especially at the end of "Brotherhood". I mean, on the Vinyl, "Every Little Counts" closed the album and it was a perfect ending. If I listen to the CD, I have to program it so that the right song ends it.

Fine Time gets my vote; although State Of the Nation looks bad in comparison to what's around it on Substance, when you take it out of that context, it's not so bad.
I would say Fine Time too.....

Thanks for that agreement. Usually when I say something critical about Technique, the response I get is very pro-Technique.
I think the trouble is, NewOrder don't do bad songs, they do "ordinary" ones. Out of lots of ordinary songs are some sublime ones, but there aren't any bad ones I can think of.
Fine Time isn't bad...just different.
That's a good point. It's not really bad New Order songs. But there are songs that you can more emotionnally relate to.

I agree about the emotional side of some songs being stronger than others. For instance I don't think you could say "Chemical" off Republic was a typical NO emotionally blessed song. In actual fact it was a very average one by their standards. Just blame the lyrics on the Factory mess.

My least favorite song is Bizarre Love Triangle, and the reason may seem quite silly, but it's because that's the only one that gets any airplay here in Dallas. There are so many others that deserve airplay, but they just don't do it...maybe that will change with the new release. I am also very, oh, disappointed, with the fact that so many of these idiots down here don't realize that Blue Monday is NOT an original song by Orgy...agggghhhhh

I don't like Chemical or Liar from Republic.
And I don't really like Ultraviolence and Ecstacy from Power, Corruption and Lies.

I don't really understand how Shellshock would be on anybody's worst-of list. It's probably in my top ten or better. Particularly the lyrics. "It's never enough until your heart stops beating" for me is up there with "Oh you've got green eyes, oh you've got blue eyes, oh you've got grey eyes."
Worst song has to be 'Rock Shack' - downloaded samples from this website, is this really going to go on commercial release? - come on everyone, it can't be just me that thinks this song isn't NO at all.
Barney always used to say they'd give up once they got too old. After listening to ALL of the album samples they sound surprisingly on-form (given the amount of time out of it and some material on Republic) but what's this 'Rock Shack' business???
I'm reading some of the topics in this post and people are saying that it might not be released... well let's hope this is correct, after all, can you name another band that has a perfect record for releasing only quality songs time after time (like has been said - nothing bad, just not as good) - however, could 'Rock Shack' spoil this???
Anybody out there ever heard 'Love Dance' - a promo from about 1985/6'ish. Had this on bootleg, a classic I'd say, and definately one to try to get hold of.
'Run' is dreadful. It's New Order at their most wimpy and banal. Why so many people like it is beyond me. I would never have put on an LP, let alone the best of. Give me 'Thieves like us' anyday.
I love "Run", it's one of my favorites, actually. But that's the fun of this topic, you know, on a fansite, to ask about what fans don't like... :-)

I agree, Run is one of my faves too.... One of my friends who is also a fan, tells me that she hates that track, it always surprises me, i think its a good typical NO track. I like it...

The question here is 'what is your least favorite New Order song'. So why does everybody here refer to lyrics. I just think it's interesting. There are quite a few New Order songs with terrible singing and lyrics, but have beautiful instrumentals and I'll listen to them for that. Like 'Thieves Like Us'. I always listen to the intro, and then skip to the next track as soon as Barney starts singing. And 'Run'. You might not like the lyrics, and thats fine. But you have to listen to those kick ass drums, and the keyboards, and that guitar duet thing towards the end. Some of you only appreciate the lyrical portion of there songs and thats sad.
I didn't like most of 'Republic'. I'm not sure if it was Hague's dated production or what - 'Regret' was excellent though.
Least favorite New Order tracks..
Let's see, there is many I can't listen too often, because listening to them a lot means suffering, while listening to them once in a while is ok.

And the list can go on.. I don't like 50% of Movement & PC&L.. I like 75% of Low-Life, 90% of Brotherhood and 95% of all the rest..

I do prefer to talk about the songs that I like. For some reason, Blue Monday is not one of my favorite, even if it's New Order's biggest hit to date (and I doubt anything on Get Ready will beat that)... I don't hate it, It's just a track I don't listen too much, like Fine Time..
There might be others.. but well, I hate to talk about what I don't like about New Order.. there is so many good songs.. and pure gems that are unknown to those who don't possess the albums, that it's difficult to discuss bad songs.

I love Run, especially the mandolin part at the end - very cool and very original. The only other great song that I can think of with mandolin is "Losing my Religion" by REM.
In reply to the first post, i have Brotherhood on Lp and CD and both end with Every Little Counts. Did they reissue this album with the extra track (and tacky badge)? As for my least favorite, Run Wild on Get Ready would do just fine. The interview at dotmusic praised the song but any time singers start talking about Jesus i lose interest....musically the song is good but the chorus wrecks the track.

Well, there is some extra tracks on many CD release.. the canadian CD has State of the Nation and the Bizarre Love Triangle Shep Pettibone Mix as extra tracks for instance.

BRIAN - would you say that Mr. Disco had a naff chorus also? - such a beatiful verse, but the chorus, dear me.
i've always enjoyed Mr.Disco. I find my self singing it from time to time and it brings me some joy. Technique came out around the time i got my drivers liscense and that tape got worn to bits in the cassette deck. I read something about Mr.Disco in the literature section here i believe. I don't like any of the songs on movement, except 'Dreams Never End'. I listened to Movement at the CD store, and I didn't even buy it. The only album I don't own.
yep! it's got to be state of the nation for me. it's funny though good or bad songs can be the complete opposite when it comes to a live perfomance. i think almost everyone can agree on that one. i think temptation is a great song, but i get bored when i hear it live.
i don't like the song prodical son, but that's electronic.
