How did you first heard of New Order ?

Brotherhood. A party in Haslingden, Lancashire. 1986. In a bedroom trying to pull a girl from school. Failed. Angel Dust stayed with me from that moment on.

I grew up in Syracuse, NY where we had horrible radio and my parents only got cable around 1987 (when I was 9) and MTv was blocked until I was 13. So there I am flipping channels in the spring of 1993 when all of sudden on Entertainment Tonight of all places they run a bit about new music from the UK -- World Party's Bang! and New Order's forthcoming release Republic were featured. I heard my first snippet of Regret that night. I heard the whole song the very next day on the one station that might have considered playing it (I think they played 5 more times) and I purchased my first New Order. I poured over the album. Eventually, when I had the cash, I ordered Substance through a local store. It arrived one week after my brother abruptly passed away, along with my copy of joy Division's Substance. Both albums got me through a lot of emotions. I was hooked as a fan and started a massive bootleg collection that summer thanks to a store on the Hill at Syracuse University.

Think I mentioned this before. My sister had a boyfriend that made a cassette copy of Substance for her. I was 12 and heard the frogs on Perfect Kiss walking by her room one night and thought it was the coolest thing ever. I stole the tape from her one night and never returned it (well actually I did about 6 years later). Since have bought two cassettes of Substance (both stretched out), two cd sets (both got stolen) and finally decide forget buying a fifth copy, and illegally downloaded the fifth....

Love all the albums but Substance remains my heart and soul in music.

Round and Round, TOTP 89. Was into the Pet Shops Boys (not literally) and they were always going on about NO. Back then it was more fun being a fan - you'd dig out rarities and scour the press for news! Now you get everything straight off the Net of course.

I can remember hearing Regret and True Faith '94 on the radio as a kid growing up, I liked the odd track, Blue Monday '88 being my favourite of the handful I'd heard.

Simply cannot remember Crystal being released, it obviously didn't get nearly enough airplay as I'm sure I would have loved it [the radio/TV was broadcasting crap.. much like today]. I was familiar with the Jetstream single but didn't think much of it. I bought "SINGLES" after seeing the video of Regret on MTV 2, and eventually bought all of the albums and have never looked back!

Older brother had LWTUA when it was released and played it alot and later I heard Blue Monday 88 but didnt straight away connect the dots. I thought the video for BM 88 was the best thing ever.

well apart from the obvious JD link, I was 16, in a classroom and my friend produced a shiny 7" ceremony and put it on a 60s dansette that we could use at lunchtime. oh the luxuries.

BLue Monday in 83 got me listening, confusion made me think I'm definately going to love this band, then Lonesome Tonight set it in stone forever.

The first time I heard a New Order track was in 1987, when Channel 4 (UK TV station) used Shellshock as the theme for the end credits of an American Football programme. Blue Monday would later promopt me first to buy the 1995 remix CD single, then borrow his Substance 2-cassette compilation for ten years!

Around 2002/2003 when I heard True Faith on a music channel called the 'The Hits' - which happened to be the time when I first got into new wave/synthpop/alternative dance music from playing and listening to the sountrack on GTA Vice City! This prompted me to purchase 'Singles' and then 'Substance', the rest is history :D

I had seen Joy Division suporting Buzzcocks twice in the same week. To be honest I wasn't too impressed. Some time later a mate said remember Joy Division (I was aware of what happened with Ian) they have formed a new band called New Order and they are playing in Blackburn. So off we went and I was hooked.
