Morris' set up?

anyone know how stephen's set up changed over the years? how often is he running sequences and simultaneously playing live. i've read enough about guitar gear to make me wanna puke, and i'd like to see if anyone is equally fanatical about drumming. besides, i am terribly boring and have nothing else to contribute...

Telling from the "3 16" and "5 11" DVDs: A Yamaha Bassdrum (and probably other Yamaha equipment) and Roland E-Drums.

On 5 11 looks like he's using a Roland TD-10 V-Drum Module, Roland V-Drum Pads and V-Cymbals, some sort of small Yamaha kick and a Yamaha snare with an electronic trigger as well as a mic(sm57). Not sure about how is kick is miced up but am pretty sure he's running a trigger on it as well for some of the more synthetic sounds. He also has a Kurzweil K2500 set up beside him. As for how often he's running sequences, I'm not sure. It would all depend on the song I imagine.

He doesn't play on the roof anymore, if that helps.

Hey y'all, don't forget the mighty DrumKAT percussion controller he has parked over his hi-hat, at least in the Transmission rehearsal for John Peel I have.

is most of this stuff still being used on "get ready"?? or were the drums recorded, dropped into pro-tools, and then messed around with (timbres changed, quantized ,etc...)

Probably yes to both. You can see and hear all his kit in action on 5 11, which was obviously post Get Ready.

Steve's quite a good drummer so I doubt there's much quantizing going on, though.

stephen is excellent! he is also one of the drummers i look up to since he is one of the only drummers, not for hire, that can and will play with sequences. his sense of timing is almost perfect.

thanks for the info. i have never seen any live footage of NO. most of that has to do with the fact that none of my friends like 'em that much, and most of my $$ goes towards drum gear&beer (unfortunatly). i'll have to look at 5 11 to study up and get some ideas.

If you pick up the live Joy Division CDs Preston Warehouse and Les Baines Douches, you can hear the brave Mr. Morris wrestle with a primitive drum synth live on stage. It sounds like classic Simmons drum sounds, but I didn't think the Simmons was on the market yet.

Anyhoo, dig those crazy swept-sine-wave toms on "Insight" and the white-noise snare on "The Eternal" and "She's Lost Control."

He's not just my favorite drummer, he's my ONLY favorite drummer. I've just never really noticed anyone else's drumming.

check out stewart copeland (from the police). that guy is one of the most solid, creative, and tasteful "rock" drummers ever.

There are drummer drummers and there are musician drummers, and both Messieurs Morris and Copeland are prime examples of the latter.

I'd happily listen to drum-only CDs of either band.

There were rumours that he would join The Doors' members in their return concerts with Cult's singer on vocal.

i think that whole project is bogged-down with lawsuits.

densmore (original doors drummer) is pissed 'cause there was some clause in a contract that stated there couldn't be a doors reunion without every living member of the doors involved.

ray & robbie (the other guys) wanna tour with stewart copeland (cause he is younger, more energetic, & better?)

so densmore filed a suit saying he was being cut out, copeland filed one, too, because he was 'in' & now he is 'out'. so ray & robbie are screwed and the whole thing is locked-up in court.

Right, forgot about Mr. Copeland. He's quite good as well.

I heard Densmore had tinnitis and couldn't play with them any more, but maybe that was a Dirty Lie spread to squeeze him out. Who knows. Copeland did play one show with them in LA, I thought.

i don't know if they did do a show, or not... i like copeland, but the doors do nothing for me except make me vomit (true story).

I think The Doors was like U2 :barf: 33 years ago.But I hate U2 much more,no doubt.
