Yeah, this material is worth many thousands if sold individualy, the signed Ideal For Living,posters etc etc would fetch mega money. It must be gut wrenching for the seller but who knows their reasoning, I know what it's like to sell cherished stuff off cheaply to make the mortgage.

It's an absolute treasure trove. I got shivers down my neck just reading the description. If I wasn't currently out of work and on a tight budget I'd be definitely bidding for this. But as an avid JD/NO fan only since 1985 I'd feel a fake taking this collection from someone who was there. It must surely be gut-wrenching for them. Then again, you can't take it with you when you go. I hope Hooky buys it.

this truly is a one of a kind collection. too bad noone has had the foresite to build a museum in Manchester dedicated to the incredible music the city has given the world. these items would make for an interesting display. it's not so much that i want these items, i just want to get a good look at them...

how rare are autographs of Ian and all 4? who here also has gotten Ian's autograph, or has gotten his secondhand? and all the members of Joy Division(while they were still JD??

seems to me, the guy who is willing to spend the money on this prolly has half of the non-autographed stuff anyway and just wants the early ultra-rarities.

Nah, if your highest bid meets the reserve it will be accepted. So, if Wim bids 10000 Pounds and this is the reserve, he will get it anyway. No matter, what the next-highest bid is.

In the business world of the 80's, buying companies and selling them off piecemeal was all the rage. I would be very disppointed if the buyer ended up doing something similar with this lot. These should go to a true fan. Problem is they'll go to someone who has more money than they know what to do with. Just jealous I suppose. Keep them in the UK!!

Sweepstakes on what the highest bid will be? I'll say £8000, no problem. If some clown can pay £1500 for a tatty original of the fac1 poster, this lot can easily go for £8k. Plus, I don't think the "incubation" guy has entered the fray yet...

I used to dream about An Ideal for Living when I was a little teenage JD fan way back in the 80s, after I saw a picture of it in An Ideal For Living book. The specially attracting thing about it was the fact thet they'd not only released it on their own, but that they'd folded the sleeves themselves. Makes it physically connected to Joy Division you see, not just another comercial presssed in a plant somewhere far away that presses Britneys and Limp Bizkits of the world as well. I might have seen a copy in Zagreb in a club circa 1990, but it might have been a fake as well. Or it might have been a dream.

Now that I'm older I'm not any wiser.

One good thing about living in an extremely poor country is that, on 290 pounds per month, there's no way I could find 5000 pounds, so there is no threat thad I could spend 5000 pounds on records.

We know what his autograph looked like, so unless someone had deliberately forged it back then on a period fag packet, it'll (chances are) be genuine. We know this seller went to the Alty show - he's got the ticket/poster in the stash. Dunno why so many people are sceptical. The idea of autographing a fag packet is so Joy Division it has to be true !!

I sense the typical jealousy against people who are fortunate enough to be able to affort the prices for some of the really collectible items. I've met David a couple of times, and he's a nice guy who is very passionate about New Order. If we didn't have ebay, he would be 3 hours early to a record fair just to snag the best pieces there.

There are collectors, and then there are dedicated hard-core collectors. I only know of a handful of collectors who would spend this kind of money. Some people play the lottery (tax for people who don't know statistics), some people buy expensive cars, some people travel around the world to see New Order ;), and some people spend a lot of money on records...

The flip-side of the coin is that the seller could've sold the collection to Esprit, and then we would have seen some really horrible prices...

as nic says, they were french living in nova scotia (acadians--say it fast and you get 'cajuns') deported from canada by the british, once that province changed hands, to louisiana (which was then a french colony) several hundred years ago and they now make really spicy food.

and, no, there aren't any cajun communities in florida, particularly south florida! being cajun and being french are quite different as cajuns have been in america so long, and the cajun language is not french, but a french patois, like creole. and, as i said, their food is super spicy.

OK, a guess: the seller doesn't want to sell the stuff at all, he's put an impossible reserve price, 50 000 or something, and he's just showing off his rarities and laughing at the patethic people bidding their hard earned money for it. Or, as I've said before, it could be someone from the band checking out how popular they still are.

They could just look on here and find that out.

but sellers can always sell under the reserve if they so choose, right? sometimes people overestimate their item's worth and other people's interest in it. anybody know if he got the collection in the end?

I fail to understand why anyone would want to pay such stupid money for this kind of stuff. Surely it's the music that's important, not the record sleeves or someone's scrawl on the back of an old fag packet - and let's face it all you're really getting is a scribbled on record sleeve as the songs are now freely available. At least if you'd forked out for Ian's old house last year you'd have some sort of tangible benefit. Maybe someone could explain to me what I'm so obviously missing...?

Does anyone know of any stuff signed by all 4 JD members selling before? Maybe those should go to a proper rock memorabilia auction. I've no idea what those would be worth. None of the other items can be worth more than 100ukp each.
