Talking about rare JD records....

Talking about scarce JD records (nevermind autographed!) as the JD ebay frenzy does at the moment. When a record has a limited run like 1000 - just how many are kept well and how many get damaged, stolen, broken and disappear through neglect. Give it a decade and a 1000 run might dwindle to 500 left. It makes me wonder, out of curiosity, how many of the 1578 run of the original Atmosphere/Dead Souls French Sordide Sentimentale actually still exist after 23 years. How many people went to France just to get a copy in 1980 ?

Wouldn't it be fascinating to have some sort of registry on the net where you could see where each number has ended up 23 years on.

Nice idea! Mine is No. 342. So this copy moved with me from "Plastic Passion"-record store (London) to Darmstadt (Germany) in 1987 or 88, and then to Berlin in 2001.

And I admit, 5 minutes searching my record collection to look up the number was driving me a bit nervous . I should have found it in an instance. But my copy is still in perfect condition

you should definitely get this sorted nic was a good idea to be able to include it in your profile - will sort the wheat from the chaff!

It'll be amusing to see if someone has a dud where they thought it was genuine.

It would be a bit like that pompous woman on the Antiques Roadshow who was convinced she had an original Gainsbrough, even though the expert repeatedly told her it was fake. :p

Ok I'll cop to this. For years I thought that I had a "real" copy only to discover on the *ceremony* board that it was an imitation. Talk about embarrasing!

The only numbers my bootlegs have on them are 60 and 90. Are they fake then ?

if they're preceeded with a c then you can be pretty sure they are copies!
