Sean, there's sounding calm and being calm. Trust me, there is no way on this earth that Ian would have been up for a bit of keyboard playing, however simple it was. At that stage in the song he had worked himself up to such an extent that nothing else was possible. I guess it's difficult to appreciate this from grainy video source. I'm pretty sure it was not one of the band members who played keyboards on SLC live.
Like the one in Finsbury Park 2002 roadie singing in World in Motion,why not a roadie or Sir.Terry Mason on the keyboards?
Come on Timbo! You saw them play SLC at Malvern! Surely 23 years' worth of lager can't induce memory loss?!

I also observed in London Lyceum 29/02/80 that just after Ian gave up singing we can hear the keyboards notes.I agree with Benny, he couldn't stop his dead fly dance movements to play the keyboards.So,who was ?

It was a seething rather than a flailing when he was actually singing. No video will ever do it justice. Not what I'd call calm at all !

I'd say the album version is the best...JD (to me) always sounds best wihout the extra mixing an such; the mixes are fun to listen to, but if you do the headphone thing and listen to the original cuts they just seem better to the 2 ears I have anyways.
