I like his solo in New Dawn Fades and Transmission as Joy Division,Run and Dreams Never End as New Order. What about you?

I find the solos on Brotherhood very emotional.

:hat:

'Thrash' at the end of Love Vig. Very emotive!

His vocal improvisation in Lonesome Tonight is unmatched.

Love Vigilantes it is, although I do believe there's a hidden solo on it too.

Sorry, I'll go away now...

You know Barney's freak-out solo at the end of "Way of Life" on Brotherhood?

That's not it.

Oh, and I love the SOUND of the guitar on 'Something Must Break'.

Had Joy Division Continued, Barney would have become one hell of a guitarist. Joy Division's music contained numerous fantastic guitar work. I can only think of sections of 'Lonesome Tonight' that come close to Barney's work with JD.

Walked In Line/The Kill/Transmission.......one note difference between the three of them !!

That's the point Pete

This is why I call Joy Division the Super Group :thumb:

The solo on 'Failures' - the perfect soundtrack for the fight between Billy and Jamie Mitchell on Eastenders!

Angel Dust is the one I usually think of, I know I always turn up the volume for the guitar on that one.

I guess mine would be the one at the end of Dream Attack (which lasts longer on the live versions -- I hate fade outs!!!!), the one at the end of Leave Me Alone and the one on Temptation.

all day long, everything's gone green (if chords count as solos), and some ripping shit on some live versions of the perfect kiss. tons of great joy division work. new dawn fades and day of the lords spring to mind.

Transmission is sheer genius, drop dead beautiful! So what if it's simple. I'm far more impressed with someone who can make something totally memorable and moving out of a few notes than someone who can weedly deedly all over the fretboard and have perfect pitch, etc. Look at the blues: simple, the same stuff over and over, but someone who can really do it just gets you in the gut.

Digital. Whole thing. Enough said.

Day of the lords. Wrenching sludge. Go, Barney.

The solo in Face up, yeah!

All of Leave me alone.

All of Ceremony. The combination of emotions this thing evokes is indescribable. One of my favorite songs ever, I don't even know where it takes me. It's too good. The way Barney and Hooky work together on this one, you'd think they were born for each other.

Disorder. Out U2s anything U2 ever did, and anybody else who does this sort of thing, with a casual sophistication as if he knew everyone would be trying to copy him. His sense of melody is better than the Cure, the Chameleons, the Bunnymen, et al. He may be a little lazy, but he hardly has to try.

I've never seen this before, but Barney's sense of melody reminds me of Sonic Youth, if no one else. "Dreams never end" is a good example. That simultaneous melancholia and exhilaration, except Barney doesn't need to detune into ambiguous minor/major things to do it. Listen to "Schizophrenia" off of Sister. Reminds me of New Order every time.

I've heard him say numerous times that he "hates guitar solos".

Hmmm..

What ishe doing in Failures then? I love it though.
