Thanx for the link Jorge, who new Peter Saville designed the crappy album cover for Peter Gabriel's "So" (i should have, since i have the album in question).

I thought everyone knew that. What's crappy about it? It's basically Low-life without the tracing paper.

Well deduced Jorge, I was tired waiting for the official site he's creating with Warm Studio - it's been in development for over a year now. So what with with the interest in the exhibition and book coming out; now's the time to highlight what a prolific talent he really is.

Many thanks for all the kind comments regarding the site, I hope to keep updating it as and when I get new material, so if anyone has any interesting articles or interviews please do get in touch!...Nic thanks for linking the site, much appreciated.

Nick, regarding the fonts go ahead, as Saville would say I 'appropiated' the idea from NOOL anyway.

Anita, thanks it's very gratifying to know people enjoy the site, I do intend expanding the galleries soon, it's interesting to note that Saville from the remarks I've read is not very enamoured with the Ultravox work ie there's very little in the exhibition or book...so who knows ;)

That's cool. It's weird that he wasn't keen on his 'vox work...I thought some of it was beautiful...kinda cold, stark, but then others were just really neat LOL...go figure...

I agree with you! Quartet, for instance, is one of my all time favorite sleeves! That's why I forgive Peter for "apropriating" his own work sometimes(Vox's One small day 12" sleeve is exactly the same as Section 25's Always now LP: only the colour scheme is diferent!)

Andy - ... and what is that?

What is this? Let me start again. The designer is clearly a fan of Saville and has an eye for detail, but he is cagey about who or what he is. He is no Peter Saville but has an eye for..for what. A collection of photos and some words borrowed from other sources. Unfair? a little. This is a well thought out site, plenty to see and do but lack consistenty, cohenrency. But if Peter won't come out and play, someone was always going to steal his game. Bravo, Mon Frere, you waste your time in such an elegant way.

With respect this isn't a personal portfolio or some sort of bloggers diary, but purely a site dedicated to Saville. My remit from the beginning was to collate as much information and material and have it available in one place.

When I first started this project I was surprised there wasn't a detailed gallery site about him (Unlike other contempory designers such as David Carson) and a great deal of the features and essays I've transcribed are available on the internet for the first time. I'm presently writing an essay on the primary sources for his work, a topic only touched on in his recent book. But as anyone lucky enough to see the exhibition can vouch for - a fascinating insight into his thinking and motivation...so stay tuned! ;)

Fascinating, I never knew that either, despite being a big admirer of PG. Funnily enough, So unquestionably features Gabriel's worst sleeve!
