The following review seems to be the most accurate, judging by other peoples comments in DRY 201

New Order - Get Ready

In the aftermath of 1993' 'Republic' New Order seemed to have finally lost their innovative streak; it had a few highlights but it truly lacked the unique qualities which made the group so great. 8 years later another 'comeback' album arrives with the three male protagonists delivering a new set of tracks full to the brim witrh ideas and rediscovered energy. Opener 'Crystal' and the following '60 Miles An Hour' reveal a harder guitar-based sound; a formula built on still further on mid-album workouts such as 'Primitive Notion' and 'Slow Jam'. Keyboards return on 'Vicious Streak' and 'Someone Like You' but there is still an underlying tension and sense of urgency underneath it all. In fact all the essential elements are in place which means that Peter Hook's bass still resonates like no other and Bernard Sumner's emotionally charged voice of youth is still in full working order even in its mid forties. The guest appearances are of variable quality; the Primal Scream collaboration on 'Rock The Shack' is forgettable but Billy Corgan (whose later work with the Smashing Pumpkins demonstrated a working knowledge of New Order's material) assists in making 'Turn My Way' one of the best songs on 'Get Ready'. This is the sound of a band still setting high-quality standards in rock music and long may it continue.

Except for the Mojo review, everything I've read about GR has been positive. It's getting better buzz than Marah's latest, I tell ya that much.

Side note: was in the local Super Star Destroyer of shops (Wal-Mart) with the little sis, I pointed out Glitter and she said it was crap, that Mariah's new stuff sucked shit. I guess it's time for Mariah to hit the dinner crowd circuit, eh?

Talking of reviews, here's an interesting one about the second Scottish gig, from the Herald, I believe -

""SQUABBLING STARS ARE BANG OUT OF ORDER Who exactly do New Order think they are? after an absence of 11 years(?) a full house was expecting a gig worthy of one of the most pioneering bands of recent times. But the £25-a-head audience were kicked in the teeth when the band walked off after barely an hour. Things couldn't have got off to a better start, with a rousing version of Crystal, plus old favourites Love Will Tear Us Apart and Regret. Despite the bulging waistlines and Bernard Sumners ridiculous 1980's hairdo, the boys were still proving they could produce the goods live. Peter Hook's infectious bass-lines linked Sumner's vocals with all the power of their glory days in the Eighties. However, relations between the two appeared frosty, as Hook prounced around the stage like a court jester, much to the annoyance of the moody lead singer. Still, they managed to keep things rolling with classics like True Faith and Bizarre Love Triangle. Mixing the old seamlessly with the new, they produced sparkling versions of Transmission and new single 60 miles an hour. But just as this was beginning to look like an unforgettable gig, Sumner and Hook started getting shirty. A few obscenities were exchanged between songs and the pair seemed to tire of the whole thing. All very rock'n'roll. But when they squared up at one point it was a case of handbags at dawn. Soon Sumner made his excuses and led the band off stage. As the houselights came on, hundreds of dissapointed fans showed their disgust, booing their fallen idols. Maybe they're sick of performing Blue Monday encores, or they just turned up for the cash. Whatever, New Order were bang out of order.""

I mean, what the f*** DO people expect?! I'll even stick me neck out as far to say that was THE standout show of the tour simply because there was no encore. And cos they switched Transmish and LWTUA - woo, radical!

'mid-forties' who would have believed it.

anyway i don't wish to reopen the 'rock the shitter' debate but when i listen to it (by the way i do think itis piss poor) it sounds like it may be a oasis offering with liam strangling the line 'rock thee shhaaackk' you know wot i mean

Pretty accurate review that. To a non NO fab 4/5 would probably seem right, but to a NO fan it would probably get 3/5. i.e. first 5 songs great, next 5 songs not bad.

Where is that review from? Huntsy, glad to see you saying properly nasty things about the truly vile MC. Of course any review that positive about TMW will make me smile.

I don't know Pasties, you'd have to ask the great Facsy, as it was him who did post such a thing about getting it all nice and ready for us all.

Hey P, Carey wins hands down the biggest cow bag in the world no mistake, however, as previously stated, if we could bash her head in for a bit to make her slightly confused I'd probably see what makes her tick for a while until she came too. Mind, I would probably cum too.

In Korea, two popular online music journal did review Get Ready.

One is 4/5 and the other is 2.5/5.

Actually, the first thing is written by me :D I could write about New Order but just could not 'rate' anything from New order so I gave it same mark as NME(8/10) and Q (4/5)....

But the other review is a bit negative. Some readers have taken objection against it. The reviewer mentioned 'lack of consistency' of Get Ready but one reader said "Why should a New Order record have consistency? It is not important to them. New order is not Squarephsuer." I heard that the reviewer's favorite is 'Electronica'. Oh well. Even he thinks Get Ready is crap or just so-so, I respect his point of view. My review is published a month earlier so he must have read mine. Then he disagree with me. Well, Korean music journal is so late!

Anyway, these two reviews show very different standpoints to New Order. Interesting.

I think what Nicolas meant was:

When you POST or REPLY to a message, look down the white window, beyond the blue frame, you have the following phrase: If you need help using smilies or neworderonline codes click on the links.

Pretty self explanatory... I suggest that you keep the smilie window open when you want to write messages, and you just have to copy/paste the smilie codes linked to the smilie you want.

The NooCodes are a tidbit more complicated, but not very much. Once again, click on the link to get the help you need -- the document explains everything in a very simple way.
