Unknown Pleasures parody shirt

I haven't seen this mentioned before...

Today in some hip, expensive clothing store I saw this Unknown Pleasures t-shirt they were selling that didn't look quite right. It didn't look quite right because the white lines were wrong. They were wrong because some of them, instead of being just the up and down mountain-like forms, formed outlines of apes.

Apes.

So if you look closely, you see heavy-brow-ridged gorillas in various lumpy-backed postures mixed into the design. Pretty funny. The shirt doesn't say Joy Division on it at all, though there are some green letters on the sleeve that look kind of like the Substance font but might be a brand name or something.

We considered buying it but passed.

Anyone else seen this?

Just out of curiosity- I'll probably regret asking- is there any significance to the Unknown Pleasures artwork? I really like the imagery- I have it hanging in a very expensive frame in a prominent place in my apartment- but have no idea what, if anything, it represents.

There was a long discussion of this sometime back (in fact, SEVERAL long discussions over the course of my tenure here), but I can't be bothered to find it. Basically, it's *supposedly* a star exploding deep in space, sort of...I use to believe it was a Fourier analysis (as someone was quoted as saying in Ideal for Living) but I was wrong

I originally saw it at a store in Belltown in downtown Seattle, but I don't remember the name of the store.

That's quite funny. Leave it to Belltown to have something like that in a shop. I'd never have noticed it if I didn't look close. Now I'm sure none of the kids who buy that shirt have any idea what it's a parody of.
