Hüsker Dü feat. Hooky? — Forum Archive

Sorry, boys and girls... sitting here in the smouldering heat, I'm feeling a bit nostalgic.

Does anybody know/remember a band called Moving Targets? They were a three-piece band from Boston, MA who released their Hüsker Dü/Mission of Burma-soundalike debut album, Burning In Water, in 1986. Some time after that, they replaced their original bass player by a guy called Chuck Freeman. His input can be heard on the band's second album from 1988, "Brave Noise" (like the first, produced by Lou Giordano). As if the aforementioned influences aren't enough to display the band's excellent taste in music, the album's full with "Hooky bass". Coupled with frontman Ken Chambers' melancholy voice & fierce guitar playing + some energetic drumming, this make for a great record .

Sorry, my roommate at the time bought the Target records, I bought Burma plus the Dredd Foole And The Din records, which also featured Kenny Chambers in the back-up band, so I haven't heard 'em in a long while. I would imagine that their records are still available on Taang, so I guess I should investigate a little further.

Burning In Water + Brave Noise are still available on a single CD... great value for money!

Husker Du + Hooky-style bass, that sounds way too good to be true! I'll try to find some of these guys stuff this weekend - thanks for the info! CTB :bear:

Whoa!! Good music HAS actually come out of Boston, MA, that isn't some dull techno garbage or bad jam-band music from bands that are attempting to be the next Phish ( :barf: ) but fail miserably.

Don't forget Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, as well as the kings of the 80's garage rock revival, The Lyres, with Jeff 'Monoman' Connolly as the leader; over the top live, and when he used to use a glass bottle for percussion, I was always afraid he' smack the glass too hard and send the shards flying into the front row.
