Paradise Fanzine

I recently had a letter from the guy who produced the excellent New Order fanzine since about 1988. He basically said that the last Issue out in 1998 would probably the last! I just wondered how many people out there used to read the fanzine and what they thought about it. I know we now have all these excellent web sites to cover the best band in the world but I for one will miss Paradise.

i really wish there were scans of the Paradise fanzines online here (or somewhere). i never got a chance to see any of them.

When i finish work next week i will copy the best of these and send them to you! I own them all ...D.SMITH produced a great FANZINE and there was a lot of useful information pre NEWORDERONLINE and INTERNET in general days! Cheers ROCKET MICK Just send me your E-MAIL and real addy please.

I think I remember this, did some issues have Sisters Of Mercy articles?. I may be completely wrong It would be fascinating to see some scans of the fanzine.

Are you taking the piss:DSome great magazines with the design of the covers done by 4.45...J.SCOTT who regular used to post here and is IN with NEW ORDER. I don't have a web page but will scan or copy the mags best bits..and send them to you via the post.Will be getting the paper and time to do this next FRIDAY when i get potted again from work...end of contract again.Some brilliant articles and i own all the mags...aprox 11 in all.Some may be to big for my LEXMARK 75.But will try to get you a good overview then maybe you could show them on this site. Found the original - and now realise that it wasn't Paradise at all. In fact it was another fanzine "Last Orders" - does anyone remember this ?

I remember that my brother penned a scathing review of the '87 Wembley Arena show that got published in 'Last Orders'.

From the requests i am getting i better get some new paper and ink cartridges.If only i could use the work's one without getting found out.Although i go in 20 mins before anyone else they have security cameras on me all the time!WHY...it's not that i am dodgy is it?Just cos i look like a RIGHT SAID FRED TRIBUTE BAND/UNCLE FESTER/GAYLORD(DICK EMERY'S SON)/BALDY BOUNCER.

I did a few bits for Last Orders, as well as providing N.Bobby Bhamra with half his bootleg collection !

Covers are for those who weren't around to see the band at the time, not everyone has managed to chalk up nearly 100 New Order gigs like we have.

....I have three issues of those PARADISE fanzine...I think I've seen Al Jarvis name on one of the contributors list..... I remember those bad of old days of sending some English Pounds to Danny Smith ( I think )...and waited for like 2 months for the fanzine to arrive.....AHH, DAYS BEFORE PAYPAL AND THE NET......

Hi David...thought you had gone forever.I actually only copied 1 issue and sent to about seven NOOL's altogether.So don't worry about the rest being done.Now they can get the REAL DEAL then you are the man for such deals.I actually think they are a great part of my collection.Without the interenet and much info on the band your magazine was a great source of info.How many mags are there?I think i only got volumes 1-12.Someone has said there are 14?Are you still following the band and how is life treating you in general?This has been great to hear from you after several years.You won't remember me but i certainly remember youand those great covers done by J.SCOTT.The RECORD PEDDLER is long gone but thanks to your mag my collection is superb because of visits to this shop. Has anyone seen any more issues of "20 Years Too Late" anywhere in the past year or so? I contributed to the first (only?) issue which came out in summer '02, but I haven't heard back from the editor since suggesting I put my "History of New order" in the "next" issue. Just wondering...

Thanks Rocket Mick, Don't worry mate, I don't blame you. I've been away too long. Copies of copies were all some people could get hold of.

As is established now, there were originally 12 issues. The last written in '98 and released in early '99. The first came out in early '89. It was a big part of my life then and I'm proud of what we all achieved. With the internet making things so effortless these days, the written word and print seems like the dark ages.

I met Jonathon Scott ,(hello matey) in Macclesfield at the advent of Paradise and he helped us out, not only with his great artwork, but also with important information. He arranged an interview with the band, but Bernard pulled the plug. Oh well, the next time I met him l pulled him up for it. He didn't remember, but that's Bernard for you.

I went on to work at Manchester Airport. It was here that I stumbled across Mark from the Record Peddler, (the shop had long been closed), he was not selling records, but was collecting tickets for British Rail. If you are out there Mark - HELLO! He ran a great shop and sold the magazine for us.

Peter Hook was very supportive and so too were Factory. We advertised in NME mostly, but word spread and we sold all over the world. At it's height Paradise sold a 1000 copies per issue. So there are lots of copies out there somewhere!

Cheers DAVID for the infomation.I never realized that 1000 copies had been sold.Superb for a magazine.Just think what you could have achieved with the INTERNET.Those were great days and i always looked forward to receiving a NEW ISSUE. I often corresponded with MARK to see what new records he had to sell.The little shop was superb and had a brilliant collection of records and artefacts.It was a shame that the demise of FACTORY also eventually closed down this shop.Interesting to note that he is doing something completely different now.But times move on.It is surprising how many people that wrote in this mag have been here from time to time.Also some that were just listed as NEW ORDER FANS or the like.I have met AL JARVIS,J.SCOTT and also remember the great excitement i had when getting hold of the one-sided PROMO of CONFUSION after reading about it in your esteemed magazine.The way that the COVERS got better and more detailed was also a clever grasp on what P.SAVILLE was doing at the time.The oldies like me who are still consumed with a great passion for the band remember fondly just how much time and effort people put into following the group.Only limited details of NEW ORDER would appear in the press and so much was released then deleted before one had time to find out about them.Thanks for the memories and once again great to hear from you.
